Gilli Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 How do you all explain your love of old skool motors to others that just don't share your ideas? My dads a prime example, he doesn't understand why i'd want to drive something with a bit of character, something different. All he sees is an old banger that makes too much noise and leaks oil onto the tarmac... Just thought i'd get your opinions!
bomber1 Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 dont bother. i just kick the arse out at every oppertunity
Duke3s Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Not much you can do mate! My mates aren't even into cars let alone old Fords. they just looked really confused when i said i was getting a Capri and then laughed - gits. Family's the same. I think they have a grudging respect for it now though 'cos of all the attention in gets when were out and about from people who know the shit! That and the fact that i can dust all there Euro boxes!
antz Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 my mate was a non-believer....1 short ride and he is hooked ...he is also a member on here now
Gonzo Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Sambo tried converting one of the chavvy tossers on our college course by taking him out for a quick blast in his mk1 when he'd not long dropped his first pinto in it. had it spinning up all the way to 3rd gear but still didn't manage to convince him that his 1200 nova was only good for scrap... some people wouldn't know a good car if it ran 'em over...
MK5 Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 most people i know think i'm crazy and that "heap of junk" i drive is part of my personality disorder... given up trying to explain myself... i told John when i first met him that my Cortina was part of the package... love me, love my Cortina... fortunately he understands my ex didn't - thats why he's my ex!!
Rick Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 dont even talk to then if they make fun, jealousy usually plays a big part, its just they have neither the skill nor ambition to do anything with their lives so just follow the old line of sheep i had a conversation with a bloke at work about cars, he said 'iv always wanted a triumph stag' i said 'why dont you get one then instead of that vectra' and he replied 'my mates will laugh at me'
Mr Sam Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 with most its just not possible all they care about is looks and reliability.....but i think old stuff looks so much better and touch wood my fiestas never let me down a girl was laughing at it today saying yeah yeah you wait till i get a car it will be so much better etc etc...... the laughable point is though she was lookin at 1.1 mk4 fezzas......which happen to be just a tad slower than me she'll probly get a corsa like her mate though then i can really humiliate her..........thats if she ever passes her test and gets a car my granpas another great example i said im going away for the weekend drag racing........'your not racing are you?!?!?! ' might do.......'you'll blow it up' .... 'so what would you do just leave it there for scrap............this is coming from someone who refers to his astra SRi as a sports car he used to be so cool car wise allways had dirty great volvos when i was younger then that bloody navara (okay i do like that) then a vaux............urgh to think my fiesta has to share a drive with a vauxhall still when i get round to putting the 1.6 in it my 'scrapheap' will be faster than his 'sports car'
Nettles Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Why bother trying to convert the non-blievers, just leaves more OSF's for us.
mk2_escort_chick Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Why bother trying to convert the non-blievers, just leaves more OSF's for us. Hell yeah!

Your dad might not get it because he has probably seen these cars back in the day. I dont know, the best example I can think of is if you were to look at a Focus or somthing similar today, you probably couldnt imagine it being a classic If they dont get it its there loss!!!

Osgood Isgood Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Coincidentally, someone asked me that very question about my Anglia last week-end. I just said "if you need to ask, you'll never know!". Left him totally stumped and we moved on to something else! Works every time!
