....in 10 years or more?

tonight we looked at a capri mk2 1600GL that hasnt seen daylight for 21 years, last taxed in 86, sadly due to a leaking skylight on top if the garage i think the only things holding the front to the back off the car were the doors..its just unsavable, the bonnet eased open with creaking and groaning and all the alloy engine parts had layered corrosion on em  , sadly i was driving past that garage back in 91 on my way to work everyday and back then it would have been a nice project car, had to break it to the owner gently that it will never see the road again, at least its going out in style, it will be used in a film and crushed at the end, cant say too much on that right now though.

Sometimes it works out though, my current 1600L was found in a garage in st albans after 9 years laid up and cost £20, a new set of tyres and it went straight through an mot  3 grand+ later ive still got it.

Best one i had was my missus grandfathers 1934 riley kestrel (one of only 41 known to exist) that hadnt seen daylight for 32 years, we prized open the doors as the car had to be moved as the garages were about to be demolished, the old thing still had air in the tyres and still rolled  Massive spiders in it though.

When i moved in my current adress i was tipped off about a green E reg capri rusting in a garage down the road, sadly, 5 years later after the 280 never turned a wheel for 12 years it was too far gone to be saved so i turned it into a nice little £1000 profit and kept the wheels to boot.

theres loads of others i know about that have been laid up since the early 90s, mostly capris, sadly they will stay and rot till they are worthless as the owners are under the impression they are worth much more than they are right now, when the time comes they will be totally worthless.

The car dealership next door to us at work, Has an anglia in its showroom.

It hasnt moved in nearly ten years and it is beutifull with only one previous owner who used to own the local ford dealerships near us. The guy that owned the showroom next door was tradgically killed along with his only son over christmas, by a hit and run driver while on holiday in spain :( He also had a 628 M-Tech BMW that hasnt moved in ten years which is for sale and a 6 litre 1963 ford hot rod that has had over 25 grand spent on it :D that thing wheelspins for fun

Mine did'nt see daylight for about 8 years after being re-stored with a new shell from Ford. The car belonged to my brother-in-law at the time and I helped him re-build it. When he had finished it it sat in his garage for about 8 years until he heard I was looking to buy an RS2000 and he offered me the Capri, as I knew what work had gone into the build it was worth the money he was asking for it.

Like Glynn says, there are lots of Fords cooped up in often damp, leaky garages whose owners won't sell and think their car is worth a fortune. A couple of examples from up here are a MK1 Capri Special that still to this day sits in an open ended shed with all the bodywork aft of the back window on the ground "I'll be restoring that one day laddie!" the owner says..... Also 2.8i TT, front end rotten as a pear worth "5 grand all day long" & a really solid 4 speed 2.8i sitting in long grass (for 5 years+) that the owner won't do anything with or sell.

Very frustrating. I don't necessarily want to own these cars but it would have been good if they could've been passed on to someone who'll do something with it. Rant over...

There's a guy I know called Brad, he knows of a 1 owner mk1 Mex.

The guy ran it everyday til it failed an MOT then laid it up.

Been stood moer than 15 years now I think.

he said that the garage is collapsing around it and due to

the old roof leakin on the n/s 1/4, there's a fook off hole in it now

My Dad's Jensen's been stood since 1978 I believe... :|
