Tucker Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 i had never been 2 the classic ford show before until y day. i did enjoy it. but is not ment to be classic fords, what was with all the chaved fiesta's , mk3 and 4 escort's and sierra's. Is it like this every year? surely they have their own events.
Retromotorsport Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 I know it says Classic Ford show.. but those other cars are on club stands.. RSOC etc .. includes all Fords of all ages since the first RS. Ford Fair is a more modern car show, its for all Fords, but you dont see the Focus RS crowd complaining at having some old iron on the field. Infact you more commonly see them say " loved that old mk1 Escort" I belive there was some rumours of Fiesta in the park banning any car that wasnt a fiesta.. and there was complaints about that .. Its simple really.. if you dont like the new stuff .. walk on by, there was more than enough old Fords there .. wasnt there?
orionmojo Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 agreed. stanford hall is/was started for the sporting escorts, mk1's and 2's,. but i've been there loads with the Orion Register. they're all good blokes and to be honest, every sow has a few twats there, but mostly top metal, the owners pride and joy.
over_head_cam Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 I suppose it's like TV, if you don't like the program, just change the channel. I dare say there will be a contingent of the 'classic' ford world that will be worried that the plastic will begin to encroach on what could be seen as 'our' scene, but I for one just do as had been suggested and walk straight past anything I'm not interested in.
Posse Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 Treat them like birds m8 Just jog on if there not your taste

That's the way to do it, then with any luck they won't come back the following year
Arched Escy Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 But if you read "Classic Cars" magazine, one of their projects is an MX5.
w p e Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 one day the plastic will become the classic so they may aswell sit in the background and wait there turn at a real car show
sab6024 Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 I sure that the first CF Show had a 1990 rule. Anything registered after wasn't to show. But saying that I am partial to the odd Sierra There was also an Escy Cossie that I took a shine too. Never consider having one though. All depends on your personal taste really The only model I can't bear to see rows and rows of is the Focus RS. They're all the bloody same
Guest MK1gaz Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 The plastic is there to remind you where you've pinched the engines from !!!!!!!
andrewg1323 Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 Insurance classify a classic as anything over 20 yeas old don;t they? As above look at what classic magazines class as classic some of they;re classics are newer than the newest car i;ve ever owned...
MightySprocket Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 The plastic is there to remind you where you've pinched the engines from !!!!!!! lmao
Retromotorsport Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 I think some have missed the point that i was trying to make ... You dont see modern car owners slating the older cars at car shows, its usually the opposite, they look upon the old fords as the Heritage of Ford, as for all the "plastic crap" being there, if there was a new GT40 there.. would you all be saying its a "bucket of shite" , "shouldnt be here, its our show" .. etc etc As for the show being pre 80 or 90 the organisers may have done that before, but they realise the econonmic sense of allowing clubs to show members cars, old along with new. One stand had its older cars at the front , and the newer cars at the rear, it didnt quite go to plan at the end as the organiser was hungover and the owners in the new cars parked up and dashed off to grab the bargins for their OSF's .. So i just let them be (ooops yep it was me with the hangover) Its all to easy for members on here to slate other peoples cars, your behind a keyboard, its not like you have any connection with the reader. Did any of you say " get that bucket of plastic shite outta this showground " to any of the Escort Cossie or 3dr Cossie boys ???? I think not, and yet they like so many others may well read posts like this one and have the view that the members of OSF are elitist, and so full of themselves and spend their hours slagging off the newer cars on their website. As for "chaved up motors" ... Just think back to before the days of sleek and smooth lines, the days before 7" Rs 4's and slammed .... to draylon and fur interiors, porthole windows, fake bug catchers through the bonnets, wheel arches made from wire, newspaper and fibreglass covering 10x15 wolfrace slot mags with huge tyres 30inches tall, tinted windows, flames and candy, metalflakes and murals (mumford was good though) and stickers ... the must have " run to the sun" the " if this cars a rockin ..dont bother knockin" To me, those cars where always not to my taste, I didnt like them back then, and i still dont like them now, but the owners worked hard on them, and its their choice, and when one of them is posted on here the reaction is normally one of " eeww thats horrible" .. "what have they done to that poor escy/capper/anglia. " But if you look before that time in the 70's to the 60's you had "sit up and begs" that had the same treatment, model T's and A's, B's etc that had the huge rears, skinny fronts, flames and candies ... which could look " cool" ... and the trends continued on when the newer models started falling into the hands of the modders. Hence we had the "chaved up Escorts , cortinas etc of the 70's and early 80's ... a time when a lot of members wern't even born. I think what i'm saying is stop all this " them and us " stuff ... under the skin we are all the same, we are all petrol heads, we all like cars, some like Anglias, some like Cortinas, some like Saxo's ... they are all cars and they are all owned by people following the trends of the day. Just remember... We all like cars!
Admin Vista Posted June 13, 2007 Admin Report Posted June 13, 2007 All good points, live and let live eh?
Rick Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 im sure all the ford pop/consul and z car owners were cursing just the same when mk1/2 escorts and like became 'classic' if you'd have told someone their escort would be considered classic in late 1970's theyd have laughed at you. 10 a penny and all that
over_head_cam Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 In all fairness Retro. I for one, am 'here' because I like OSF's
105Speed Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 I can see what people are saying, its like the Classic Ford Night at Ace Cafe, it got completely swamped by idiots in RS Turbos and Cosworths doing 'stunt driving' to show off to people who aint really that interested. In the end the night got banned The sad thing is those people in those cars were desperately trying to blame Corsa and Nova drivers You cant argue that the Sierra Cosworth and the Escort Cosworth werent Classic Fords the day they rolled off the production line because they are icons. BUT It would be a shame if a show dedicated to the old Fords we all know and love got diluted by too much modern stuff. Perhaps a suggestion for next year would be to lump all the plastic stuff in one area designated by year or something, that way if people want to look at that sort of thing they can, if they dont they just walk on by.
Retromotorsport Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 in principal i can see what your saying Niel, but what about club stands.. the RSOC is spread over 4 decades .. husband has an RS1600, and the wife has an Rs Focus, and they are split up to opposite sides of the show .. who gets what kid on what side of the show ????? They way i would have split the show sites up is this ... TS and OSF either side of the CF stand, as both forums have the mags room.. many of the cars have been in the mag from both sites. Across the road, all the old school clubs .. AVO, SEOC , Capri clubs etc Behind them the mixture clubs .. RSOC, Alcoholics Anonymous etc Behind them ... the New school clubs .. Focus OC etc Its happened at Ford Fair with the oldercar clubs being shoved to the outside... which dosnt bother me as its further away from the boom boom stereos

kate Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 I really couldn't care, as long as the majority of the cars there 'classic fords' then i'm a happy girl. I just simply walk past the ones i'm not interested in!

bortaf Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 I try to think of them as tomorrows classics i love the focus ST , wouldnt buy one (yet) but i like looking at em
Nettles Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 This was my first Classic Ford Show at pod and I thought the over all attendance of the clubs and the organisation of the event was excellent. Unfortunately though I have to admit I was surprised and disappointed with the amount of non-classic vehicles on display. I do understand some of the points raised so far on this thread but surly if the event is called the CLASSIC FORD SHOW then that is what the show should consist of. Obviously some of the clubs there are proud of their particular models heritage, but is that a good enough reason to display all the models up to present day? I do feel that maybe the organisers of the event should place a restriction on the age of the cars displayed, and that the show would not suffer from such action. I’m not against displaying modern performance cars because one day they to will become classic, but if Mr and Mrs RS owners with their classic and new cars want to display them together I’m sure that there are plenty of other shows on the calendar that are better suited for them.
Retromotorsport Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 Nettles thats the point though.. clubs are clubs .. OSF turned up to Fiesta in the Park.. its says Fiesta not "Fiesta/escort/anglia/cortina in the park" So all the non fiesta owning members of OSF should have stayed away ??? You go to a concert to see the Rolling Stones, and you have to sit through 5 songs by another band first. You rent a DVD and before seeing the film theres 5 films advertised You go to a petrol station and end up walking out with 12 cans of stella and a BBQ patio set. Theres mixtures in all walks of life. And the attitude that comes across with comments like " theres enough shows out there for the plastics , stay away from OUR show" just makes the typical OSF'er look like an arrogant butthole. A guy on Alcoholics Anonymous was asking about mk2 Escort spares and advice on what parts he need for a G3 .. I pm'ed him with OSF link and TS link ... He replied that he had seen both sites and would look on TS as he had browsed OSF and didnt think he would be welcome because if its got plastic your a chav.. perhaps hes not wellcome because he has a G3 and some may remember the thread asking what cars are old school.. it was his pm that prompted me to reply with the G3/4's are old school as they are RWD and built by the Escort Body shell Gods, Gartrac. The point i'm making is that allthough there are some cars out there that are modern and a disaster in the modding world, most are well done and well built, and comments like " they are not wellcome" " fook the plastic fantastics off " ... just make the site look bad (imo) and in future when those who have a Fiesta Turbo and then buy a Mexico want to find a friendly home, do you think the place that slated their car is the 1st place they will look to? Let me ask a question ..... If the Focus Owners club laid on a show and invited OSF to have a stand .. would those who have knocked the moderns being at CFS attened?
Retromotorsport Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 And another point... if OSF do the Retrorides show.. I personally would love to see him turn up in the Montreal, how many on here can say they have ever seen one in the flesh .. I have .. just the once, got to drive it, but most, wouldnt have a clue what they are.
