I was just doing the usual browsing on the www and I came across this song - never heard of it and am at work at the mo without sound and so I can't listen to it til I get home :lol:

Have tried to find it on you tube but not had much luck. Anyone ever heard it before? Scroll down the page a little way:

So, this lead me to thinking ..... (dangerous I know  ) but how many other car related songs do you know .... particularly OSF type songs

Delivery Driver by Goldie Looking Chain... He sings/raps about delivering take-aways (amongst other things  ), in his Ford Capri  I didn't post up a youtube because it isn't suitable for our younger members

And not forgetting one of my favourites...

'Ullo John, Gotta New Motor by Alexi Sayle. Apparently, he wrote and released this record because he loved the Ford Cortina. He also did a T.V documentary in 1982 (i think), expressing his oppinions and sadness at Ford's decision to phase out the Cortina with the Sierra

My favourite car related song is track called Red Barchetta by Rush. A story of a future age when the car has been banned but he takes his uncles hidden Barchetta out for a spin. Why can't more of todays music have this much meaning in the lyrics?

My uncle has a country place

That no one knows about.

He says it used to be a farm,

Before the Motor Law.

And on Sundays I elude the Eyes,

And hop the Turbine Freight

To far outside the Wire,

Where my white-haired uncle waits.

Jump to the ground

As the Turbo slows to cross the Borderline.

Run like the wind,

As excitement shivers up and down my spine.

Down in his barn,

My uncle preserved for me an old machine,

For fifty-odd years.

To keep it as new has been his dearest dream.

I strip away the old debris

That hides a shining car.

A brilliant red Barchetta

From a better, vanished time.

I fire up the willing engine,

Responding with a roar.

Tires spitting gravel,

I commit my weekly crime...

Wind-

In my hair-

Shifting and drifting-

Mechanical music-

Adrenalin surge...

Well-weathered leather,

Hot metal and oil,

The scented country air.

Sunlight on chrome,

The blur of the landscape,

Every nerve aware.

Suddenly ahead of me,

Across the mountainside,

A gleaming alloy air-car

Shoots towards me, two lanes wide.

I spin around with shrieking tires,

To run the deadly race,

Go screaming through the valley

As another joins the chase.

Drive like the wind,

Straining the limits of machine and man.

Laughing out loud

With fear and hope, I've got a desperate plan.

At the one-lane bridge

I leave the giants stranded at the riverside.

Race back to the farm, to dream with my uncle at the fireside

Way to go Vista, Red Barchetta what a song, now where is my copy of moving pictures?

Most of the songs on that album are great, two of my other rush favourites are Hand over fist from Presto and Time stand still from Hold your fire

But getting back to good driving songs, how about Radar Love?

Or the Doors, Roadhouse blues
