Hi everyone!

I dont own a ford at the moment but am giving it some thought as at the moment i drive a classic mini but will soon need something bigger!

i had a mk2 escort a couple of years ago but sold it as i wasnt overly keen on the standard 1300cc engine it had. ive never even been in a capri before but as its a ford and has the same engine (i assume the 1600 and 2000 is a pinto?) is there much difference in a capri and an escort?

cheers

Yes mate, loads.

Ive got a Capri but I'm defo a closet mk2 escort mex & RS freak.....just dont tell anyone

I had a pinto on 45's in my Capri and I thought it was still slow compared to a similar spec in an Escort. The Capri is a big chunk of steel whereas the escort's are'nt. Just my opinion though

Not all the 1600's are Pintos, a good number of them will be X - flows plus you're unlikely to find a 1300 capri.

As Jon says, the capris a lot heavier than the escort and the escort has significant handling advantages. Shop around and see what you prefer the look and feel of though as both cars have their pros and cons.

Ive had both and i found that the capri doesnt handle as well as the mk2 escort, Its also slower and harder to park!

i'd still have another capri any day though!

capri will cost a fraction of the price depending on what your doing with it.

escorts will always come out tops though

Only the MK1 1600s were x-flows as I recall but i have never seen one, Mk2s & 3s were all pinto (inc a 1300 amazingly!)

escort any day but its down to personal opinion and funds! i like both but if i had a capri it would have 2 be a mk1 as i like it best and its most like an escort!

Not quite, the mk2 Mex's and perhaps Harriers and Sports had 1600 Pintos, 1.6 ghias etc definitley had X-flows

Just realised, you're talking about Capris whereas I'm talking about Escorts

i wouldnt want to drive a 1300, would have thought it wuld be a bit slow

No to this too, there was definitely a 1300 Pinto the rarely found 1.3 mk3 capri was a 1300 pinto as was the very early 1300 Sierra (not sure if there were 1300 Mk 4 / 5 Cortinas though)

hehe you learn something every day

1.3 pinto :o , that must have been a pretty heavy engine for only 1300 cc

Sorry vista i agree with sparky, all 1300cc capri's sold in this country were x-flows.......

As for the escort v capri debate i think its going to be all down to what you really like the look of the most, i'm biased towards the MK1 & 2 capri myself but i wouldnt say no to a MK1 escort 2-door. Oh and capri's are cheaper at the moment but the values do seem to be going up

I bow to others knowledge, I knew there was a 1300 Pinto and that it was definitely in the Sierra but wasn't sure about the Capri and Cortina.
