sambo Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 the black mk1 got taken away last night. I know its gone to a good home and is garaged too. It didnt hurt as much as i thought it would and now i can conentrate fully on my new car. I have been looking at this for a future investment.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... PIC&ih=006 what do you guys think? Bullsh*t or genuine power?? And will there be reliability issues?? Cheers.
Admin Vista Posted August 18, 2007 Admin Report Posted August 18, 2007 Hard to say really, he doesn't state any bhp or torque figures, and some of those kit cars are so light that it wouldn't take huge amounts of power to post that 0-60 time anyway. Personally I always steer clear of 2nd hand engines that you can't trace the history nor verify the pedigree of. At the end of the day, from an appearance perspective it's impossible to tell the difference between a pile of junk knocked together by the Muppets in a garden shed, and a genuine firebreathing monster of an engine put together by someone who knows his onions (ironically probably also in a shed). Save your pennies and have something really special built to your own specifications edit: just seen the figure in the title, too much power for a mk1 IMHO you'd have just as much fun with a lot less power and the car would probably be much more user friendly.
Miller Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 Agree with Vista, if you can try the engine out in the kit car to test it and all is good then maybe, but I'd be very wary of paying big money for anything I hadn't tested or known the history of. Would be lots of fun if its as it says though
bomber1 Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 440 bhp in a kit car like that u wouldnt keep the wheels from spinning imo.u defantly wouldnt keep it in a straight line
Guest MK1gaz Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 They don't last long mate at that power unless top notch Kevmk2 is the man for these engines as his engine builder ( joe at Bluesprint) builds proper reliable turbo engines as seen in Kev's and his Brother Garys cars . You'll need at least a 300bhp turbo to say in front of a 200 bhp atmo engine so if this one is 400 bhp then it should fly on the motorway
sambo Posted August 19, 2007 Author Report Posted August 19, 2007 Ahh, memories!! Clutch was slipping a tad there though!! I think that was my very first burnout session!!!!
samcos Posted August 19, 2007 Report Posted August 19, 2007 Hey chaps, im the proud new owner of sams mk1 after a few months of pestering him he finally gave up, and he is right it has gone to a good home and you guys should be seeing a bit more of me on osf now
sambo Posted August 19, 2007 Author Report Posted August 19, 2007 Hey Sam How is she? Treating her well i hope!
Jay_harrier Posted August 19, 2007 Report Posted August 19, 2007 I'd be dubious about the 440bhp engine - it has some "bits" in it & you'd want to know who built it/mapped it, documents/receipts etc. 3.51 to 60 doesn't seem quick enough for that sort of power - I had a 225bhp XE Westfield that would do 3.3 on road rubber without launch control. Maybe he has grip issues....
the master Posted August 20, 2007 Report Posted August 20, 2007 simply full of crap, used to have a 3dr with julian godfrey head on greens blah blah blah @ it made 318bhp safely, 440 bhp on that motor no chance!!
samcos Posted August 20, 2007 Report Posted August 20, 2007 Hey Sam How is she? Treating her well i hope! hey mate of course havent really got it out the garage yet though worked all weekend and it hasnt stopped raining for more than 5 mins
johnboy Posted August 20, 2007 Report Posted August 20, 2007 unless you know where its come from, I always think its best to treat any second hand motor as if its standard, forget all the bullshit, what you really need to know is if its going to go bang two days after fitting it! Id stay clear and look for something less bling, and with more history, if you know what i mean!
