Guest pooface Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 It's an Overhead-cam 2-litre at the end of the day so 200bhp isn't exactly a miracle figure, it's just quite expensive!! Struggling to get 200BHP from a pinto does not say a lot for the engines, why not just go for a newer engine and or a turbo? I was looking in to turboing the pinto but its just a waste of time with low gains and it probably wont last long without crank rods and pistons, a tappy old 1600 cvh can make 200bhp with out to many problems for about £400
Guest MK1gaz Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 You could go for a newer engine but you'll need to rinse a visa card or 2 if you wanna beat a 200 bhp pinto in a race
Guest pooface Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 You could go for a newer engine but you'll need to rinse a visa card or 2 if you wanna beat a 200 bhp pinto in a race why? take 1 200sx turbo, chip it, 15psi boost, largeintercooler, remove engine box and loom, fit to ford = a very easy and cheap 250-280bhp you could do that for less than 1k if you know what your doing or hold on....... 4k spent on a pinto engine? you could go and by a on the road cosworth for that and rob the engine and box
Guest MK1gaz Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Get a scrap yard cheapo 200sx turbo engine then and see if it can beat the pintos up at santa pod (who don't need to use a turbo ) .
Messenjah Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 yup turbos are cheating arent they gaz
Col-ashtonmobile Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 pinto and cossy use the same bottom end block....just a different head Nearly right..!! The Cossy bottom end is the same block but the pinto uses a cast iron crank & rods, unlike the the cossy that has a cast steel crank & rods. The 2.0 pinto`s in question are 8 valve heads & not the twin cam 16v variety. I hope that clears up a few points for you my friend.. Jeff Harris.. you not disclosing too much either eh jeff Well since you asked Colin, Grinding, Boring, lightning & balancing, big valve head, port & polishing, webbers or dellortos, 40s,45s,50s,55s, camshaft, vernier, spray bar, jack wheel, flywheel, clutch, Pintos, crossflows, zetec, duratec, ybs, bdas, bdgs, bdxs. I think i`ve said quite enough. Jeff Harris... na m8 you forgot , oil pump, fuel pump, water pump, foot pump, thermo stat, thermo switch, thermo flask, spark plug, core plug , 3 pin plug, timing belt, fan belt, trousers belt, top hose, bottom hose, panty hose , the list is endless
Admin Vista Posted September 28, 2007 Admin Report Posted September 28, 2007 You could go for a newer engine but you'll need to rinse a visa card or 2 if you wanna beat a 200 bhp pinto in a race I hope you're not about to turn this post into another one of your 10 page blurbs about the pinto being the best engine bar none.
Mr Sam Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 You could go for a newer engine but you'll need to rinse a visa card or 2 if you wanna beat a 200 bhp pinto in a race here here to hell with newer engine you pop down the pod and see these pinto's in action

Guest MK1gaz Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 yup turbos are cheating arent they gaz They're not cheating unless your comparing them to engines without them . In this case we'll make an acception and compare a 15 psi 200sx scrap yard turbo engine install(so approx 15 years old) with a new built 180-200 bhp pinto . In the same car the turbo engine would need alot more power to keep up (around 260-280 bhp) and this would mean modifing the old engine with a bigger turbo as it only has a small T25 , an intercooler , body fabrication + tunnel mods to fit the 200sx gearbox and all the engine etc , modified propshaft to meet nissan gearbox , an uprated axle due to the higher bhp/torque plus converting the car to fuel injection etc etc etc = lots of work/money and then the 15 year old poorly maintained turbo motor will normally pop it's cloggs and die 5 mins later unless you were lucky and got a 200sx for £500 with 20,000 miles on the clock with miss daisy as it's only owner !!!!!!!!! P.S. Sorry for making conversion mr vista
