Are there any rules and regs on the vehicle? iv been offered free use of a pinto'd spartan kit car at any time as i donated parts to make the motor run, Spartan being the word you'd use as it has no lights, trim, screen etc, basicly a rolling shell with running gear and a seat. just wondered what the score would be with trailering it to a RWYB event next year. also with regards to towing a non road legal car, does it need to be towed on a dolly with the front wheels clear of the road, or can it be towed with one of them new fangled type things with 4 wheels on the ground un-manned.

bashmk1 Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 im pretty sure you can turn up and race what you want, you bring it, you race it!!! you see cars all the time with lights removed and the like so i see no problem. as for towing. again, i cant see any problem with all four wheels touching the ground, as long as you have the lights and plate thing that goes across the back then it should be ok. like the thing that KJ uses.
capriclive Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 you can use a towing a-frame as long as car tyres are legal and you have trailerboard / lighting fitted to towed vehicle. as for the pod, cant see any reason at all why not. they let karts go up there.

bortaf Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 As long as it's towed by a solid tow implement (a frame or spec) it's classed as a trailer but all tyres must be legal and the tow cars reg must be displayed at the rear of the trailer, oh and lights ect BUT any unbraked trailer cannot weigh over 750 Kg but TBH i've been pulled with me A frame towing a ton of cortina and all they wanted was to check the tyres.
capriclive Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 ive been using an a frame for years now. when the car being towed is hooked up to tow vehicle its technically classed as a trailer so no insurance needed. ive towed several non road legal (no tax or mot) cars from all over the place and never had a legal problem

Cookie Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 Im not sure on which towing implements etc are classed as what, but as long as you find out which method is classed the same as towing any other trailer your usual car insurance usually covers you to tow a trailer so would be ok
Messenjah Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 capri clive am afraid you are wrong if the car is on the road it has to be road legal so unless it is on a trailer you wont be able to take it there towing on an a frame with a trailer board is not enough and is technically illegal afaik a frame is same rules as towing with a rope i think the car on tow altho it may be broken at the time must hold a current mot and be taxed

Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Hi mate, not sure on racing rules, but I did take some time out to find out the rules on towing once. Towing cars of varying legality is a bit of a grey area. I have had doubts about towing cars before, so I asked the helpful people called the Police. Fiesta Steve is correct, if the car has no paperwork, i.e insurance, tax or MoT, it has to be towed with all 4 wheels at least an inch off the floor. This will mean it has to be on a trailer or flat bed recovery lorry etc. I have towed/been towed with alot of cars before. I have to say, I havn't adhered to these rules, but, if you are towing a car with no paperwork and something went wrong, you could end up in all sorts of trouble. I know accidents can happen with trailers, but trailers don't legally have any paperwork corresponding to them. I helped a mate of mine tow a Range Rover earlier this year and we hired a trailer for that. I will never tow any other way for a long distance, it was so relaxing!!! Hope this helps

Hilux Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 when we were at the pod for rd 6 there was a guy with a non road legal grass track racer, no lights, no number plates it was a space framed, bike engined very damaged looking pug 205 shell didnt even have any glass in it just the traditional wire to stop stones, so i dont think theres an issue with road legal or not
