sambo Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 I dont know why but this really annoys me. Everytime i pull up at a petrol station or somewhere theres builders or a taxi driver etc, they have to say " Cor, is it a Mexico mate?? my mate used to have an RS. He had the weber on it and that, went like shi*t off a shovel" etc. Or " I had a twin cam one of them with the um....weber on it, proper RS it was. Bloody quick too, went like shi*t off a shovel " etc. NO its not a mexico. Do you not see the GT badge on the wing?!?! You actually dont know anything about old fords do you? While i appreciate any comment on my car, its just always the same ones as above. Just something that gets on my tits now and again. "Is it a mexico mate?"

ZetecVan 2.0 Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 The joys of owning old fords. First time I went to work in the van, the warehouse guy came out to have a look. He owns a Smart and said he thought he was the only one who had an unusual car. Sorry, but a smart isn't even that anymore. Then he went on to ask me about the Rostyles I have on it. No, they're Dunlops. Then he said 'Oh the standard ones had crossflows in'. No they didn't but by then I realised he knew nothing about old fords, so didn't bother correcting him, then he started going on about a Mk3 Escort he had! Everyone asks me how fast it goes. I always reply 'I've no idea'
Paul F Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Someone tried to convince me the other day that my "5 door mk2" (4 door mk2) was bound to be worth a lot because it was the "5 door version", and they're "more desirable". First of all it's 4 doors not 5, and no they're not more desirable, and secondly...did he not see the amount of rust??? THEN he told me he had a mint condition mk3 GL or something that he bought for £50 a few weeks ago... I was tempted to tell him not only was he probably ripped off, but mk3's weren't mint when they came out the factory... only joking...
ay_jay Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 I got asked how long I have had mine. I said as far as I'm aware its always been this length

BaileyMex Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 "Is it a mexico mate?" best thing to do, go buy a mexico, then next time you are asked, you can say YES Mate, mine IS a Mex, and it dont get easier.....I get 'Ahhhh A Mexico, Is it a real genuine one?' that annoys me, it is, and what if it wasnt, fook off its my car keep your judging thoughts to yourself

DEP Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 I think all the above comments come as part and parcel of owning a OSF,I m like everyone get them all the time. I had someone ask me at a show, why the front of mine was different to a flat front
Pipster007 Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 I'm waiting for another 20 or 30 yrs time when someone pulls into the fuel stn in their Focus......I can say I used to know someone that had one of those. MadMark2 Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 Me too, got dumass comments all the time, and a few who did know summin, best 1 was when i took a round about a "little" sideways, not seeing the copper in the traffic, followed me for 2 miles before pulling me over and told me off for going sideways in a mint rs2000 ! With regards to the "uneducated muppets" , i love it ! Where did there "mexico" go..... ? Get past all the idle chit chat, sooner or later you'l get a.... " my dad/grampy/neighbour etc, got one of them in the garage......" They dont know what the OSF's are worth these days......
Alan G Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 I can top all... I had an old fella say he built them when he was back in the 70's and didn't believe me it was built in 72... He asked me when it was imported from the UK - 2001 - and it was then, are you sure it's not a 2001 car??
