just been for an interview in a garage as a mechanic...as i dont have much experience he said he cant pay me full wage...So i said, ok what are you offering.....He replied, ' well it would have to be minimum wage'

im nearly 21...minimum wage is £4.50

£4.50!! im working in asda for nearly £7....I wouldnt shit on anyone for £4.50! that would be £800 per month!

I know people have to start somewhere....but theres somewhere and then theres taking the piss!

fook me im off to asda.........

im on 5 an hour, but something differnet every day and learning every day so eventually i can start up my own business and earn £££'s a day

well thats the plan

did you hear the thing in the news today about mcdonalds giving a levels if you train with them

I spent most of last year working in a small garage, i,m 36 and the money there was shite.Left there and went back to dirty ,greasy, heavy farm machinery, its a crap job but the moneys ok.

precisely why you end up with some garages with complete monkeys working in them. you can't expect to pay peanuts and employ the good guys.

as for a-levels from macdonalds - what else could we do, we're running out of students that don't have half a dozen of them anyway

The wages always seem better in a non-skilled job than a skilled one....doesnt make sense :?:?

id agree with you on that one........it cost me 1 grand to get my bit of paper and i dont get alot more than £8 per hr

Posted

spent 3years in college working my arse off...cost me £2k tuition fees, plus the 2hrs 80mile trip each day.

All for 4.50...When i can throw stuff on a shelf for £7.

Might aswell go work in a bank....£16k!

Unless you can get a job in a dealership Moss you won't earn big money.

I have a small auto electrical company and have a 18 year old working for me at present although i feel guilty about it i can only afford to pay him under £200 a week.

By the time i have paid all the overheads insurance , rent ,tax, Vat and try to keep up with the latest equipment etc etc there isn't a great deal left to pay myself or anyone else.

Im lucky that :

1: he's a mate son, his Dads told him if he learns the trade he will make his money later.

2: He's well into cars and wants to learn.

He has he chance to use the workshop and i help where i can on his old Nova project car .................he's slowly getting into OSF's

I know it seems tough on guys like you but there is simply no real money in cars for the small time garage.

For my pennies worth i'd earn the money where you can and keep cars as a hobby !!!

Know how you feel I'm a 18 years experienced pest controller with nearly every qualifications you can get in my job

But the girl who takes our bookings says "yes the pest controller will visit tomorrow " and types that in my diary is on the same grade as me

I thought minimum wage was £5.62 :? Anyway, this has being my biggest problem in finding a job, living in the sticks, the wages around here are nt great, So i have to look further afield, but then you have to start waying up the cost of travelling, so do you travel further to earn half decent money? but then spend a fortune on getting there

I know I'm probably not helping you feel better but the garage is just a small outfit compared to one of the biggest companies in the world.

Could you not maybe negotiate with the garage to improve on his £4.50 per hour on maybe a "performance related" period of time??

im on 5.95 an hour as a sales assistant working part time in a shop, double pay sunday and overtime.

but then i am a full time student and iwth the amount its costing me to get my qualifications i hope i'll find a better payed full time job

Become an estate agent..... they are grossly over paid!

My advise is to stay in education and get all the paperwork possible. Then approach companies in person to ask for vacancies. Get all the qualifications while you are young mate. It'll pay off.

i ended up going back to college at 24 or something studying electronics. It sucked. Having no money but i'm doing alrightish now i spose and i really like my job.

Good luck though mate.

Why don't you check through asda to see if thay service there own vans and if you can get a transfer into that department? I worked at pizza hut while at uni got my degree in mech eng and saw a job servicing the peds. By the time i left 22K 'ish a year (you could try them) Then moved on to a theme park kinda by chance but the experiance i got at pizza slut got me the job now 6months later i'm earning 10K more, less stress and lovin it.

And although its rubbish you could always work part time if you are getting low pay in the garage till you get the experiance to move on. I've always thought if its a means to an end i don't mind working my ass off

plumbing / house electrics / waste removal / decorating - working for yourself, those seem to be the areas where the money is always flowing.

the amount of guys i used to work with as an aircraft techy for the mod who were made redundant and took the money to start up in those areas on their own is unreal. when i speak to them they're on way more money and enjoying work so much more.
