Heard today the goverment are trying to pass a new law governing all commercials to 55mph(to include all euro 3/4 vans) ,its a trusted source and after the LEZ started today ,its another nail in the coffin for van owners

Quote from an offical " It will bring down emission and save lifes "

What planet do these people live on !!

And why im on the subject is there nothing this crappy goverment wont tax or ruin

And and the LEZ aparantly will save over 1,000 deaths a year in London !!!

How the fkns will they be able to prove that !

Having a shag will be taxed soon !!!!

If anyone has anymore info ,i will tie myself to a well known Jag !!!

Just before anyone else says it ,no i dont just moan on here ,i just think you guys should know whats going on as 8 out 10 people didnt have a clue about LEZ until today

What they need to do is get on to the moron management of the drivers who are fully condoning the breaking of speed limits to meet deadlines and targets!!! i have been encouraged to get to jobs "as quickly as possible" and told to "put my foot down" on one occasion by my service controller  , we are also in situations where we have to phone in job details whilst driving down the road all to often.

oh, and i smoke in my van too, and i put that down to stress from the afforementioned.

Im a lorry driver and hate sticking to 56mph but when you get on a downhill section you can reach 60mph sometimes, woo-hoo

I heard on the radio the other day that 65-70p per litre of fuel is government tax  They rip all of us off big time, it pee's me off, but what can you do

hgv are already limted to 56mph...i dont think it will make a difference

correct, i dont think it would be a bad idea, why would you want to go more than 56mph in a van anyway?, i drive my cars fast, but thats what they where built for, it really pisses me off when i see a big van barrelling down the motorway in the fast lane doin 90 odd mph, no matter how good you build a van/truck it is always going to be unstable at high speed and will take a lot longer to stop due to there hieght, wieght/size compared to a car

hgv trucks are restricted for this reason and i dont see how a small truck/big van should be any different, if i was in my car i would'nt want to be hit by either going any faster than 50mph, you wanna go fast drive a car, you wanna work, drive a van.

i drive a van myself eveyday runaround, i also run a couple of artic car transporters aswell as a merc sprinter one car transporter. none of which are driven above 56. the escy regularly see's the naughty side of 90. :ykt:

Our Mk2 transit lutons will about see 60 full, but they are the same unladen weight as the LWB Mk2, which I have seen off the clock when in a rush. The trouble with governing is it doesn't allow for overtaking and getting out of trouble by accelerating, so if you pull out and get behind another governed van or truck you might as well just pull back in again, even if you are not breaking the speed limit.

Ken Livingstone must be terminated

IMMEDIATELY

How much would that cost do you think?

Lots of firms are restricting their vans because they have been advised by DVLA that they need to be compliant by 2009

it is gonna happen .

As fred says only on new vans so i'm Ok ,even if the LEZ makes me swap to a petrol engine i can fly past all the new vans, 2 finger errect in a speedy wave

Would now be a good time to mention family legend has it my mum was Pierrpoint's daughter, so that would make me the hangman's granddaughter. I would be willing to go back into the family business for Ken....
