why is it called the SAAF LANDAN look though?

you never hear of anythign like the NORTHERN MANCHESTER look :lol:

bricks dont look as good as superlites :lol:

the birmingham look seems to be honda civics on 18" chrome wheels, kurbed to f**k, no lowering springs and some lex-arse lights with a 12" sub and lots of distortion. :roll:

I read an article once that said that the south london look was about clean stock looking cars slammed on 13s x 7s Big power tuned engines and tweaked chassis but retaining original badging and interiors IE: if its a 1300 L escort then let everyone think its a 1300 L by keeping the badging etc ......... Thats what i thought anyway :wink:

I've seen 100E's,105E's,Cortinas and Escorts sporting the Sarf London look but what about Capris???

Are there any running round on 7 x 13"'s scraping the floor with lairy engines? I can't recall seeing any in the mags.

According to Simon Wooley in the classic ford article, which I agree with is

;

the car has to look physically stock in a factory colour, though pastels are best and not a metallic shade, retaining the original low back seats or maybe buckets (pref period), oh Mexico arches on MK1s of course and no mexico or RS stripes or badging as its far cooler for impreza drivers to be thinking they jus got whipped by a 1100L shopper like their grandad had :lol: tho 1300GT badges look the nuts for me.

It can either be looking restored (well from the factory) or be of the rat look, with rust patches here n there and bits of primer, just to make it look even more dismissive.

Underneathy however should be top notch with hot full race motor of any description, preferably pinto, xflow, cossie, or XE on carbs.

The whole lot should then be slammed by around 3" and sat on a nice period rim, that fits in well; for example lotus steels with or without caps cos those who aren't in the know will think its bog stock, dunlops etc, 13" revolution 4 spokes or supalites upto 7".

I think what you're saying about there being no true saarf london capris, while there is loads of capris dropped on 7" supalites its all about being well understated; ie whipping someone off the line in what they would assume was something their grandparents would have driven back in the day or an old nail, which is the satisfaction of beating someone in the escorts and anglias that the Harrisses build, the capri was marketed as the working man's GT, and dont have the same effect in the 'true' sense of being a saarf london racer, if you get what I mean, as everyone will be expecting whats coming to happen, unless you find a 1100 badged MK1 slammed on lotus rims n caps with a hot 2.0 in a factory colour :wink:
