5hane Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 how much would it atually cost some one to BUILD one there self? (buying parts and fiiting them them selves)
Rick Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 i thinkn for them to tell you the exact parts and techniques mate would be telling too much if everyone could build a 180bhp pinto then theyd be out of business
Fiesta Steve Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 how much would it atually cost some one to BUILD one there self? (buying parts and fiiting them them selves) Have a flick through a Burton Power catalogue and add up all the prices of all parts you need. Then decide how much machine work is needed and phone a machine shop and get a quote. Then add atleast 10% to that for things you forgot. Don't forget to buget for a dyno or rolling road tune.

oliwally Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 how much would it atually cost some one to BUILD one there self? (buying parts and fiiting them them selves) Buying off the shelf parts and then building up an engine you never get the actual hp you think. Lots of problem with using said off-the-shelf parts, things like exhaust valves that are too long and long pad followers, valves that are wrong material, etc. If you then add a muppet with a die grinder and then attack the head... If th parts you add to an engine on paper makes 180bhp with all the problems with tuning a pinto and the crap aftermarket stuff thats around you'd stuggle to make 150bhp.
sambo Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 Best leave it to the pro's mate! Or at least the head work and porting etc.
Admin Vista Posted April 8, 2008 Admin Report Posted April 8, 2008 If th parts you add to an engine on paper makes 180bhp with all the problems with tuning a pinto and the crap aftermarket stuff thats around you'd stuggle to make 150bhp. That's perhaps the best point made yet, I've been in engineering my whole working life, I know how an engine works and I know how to assemble them. HOWEVER I do not know the finer details of how to make a standard engine into a dogs the round ones engine. I would therefore rather invest my money wisely with someone who does, than risk an expensive failure when it either lunches itself from some silly mistake I've made or fails to produce the power that all the parts suppliers claim their shiny bits will produce. My Pinto is in excess of the figure you're looking for and owes me around £6k
