What is it about OSF's !!!!

After reading about Jimbob's recent torment with his engine/engine's(hope you dont mind young man ) ive been thinking,what makes us just keep coming back think most of us at some point have considered throwing in the towel,i know i have,many times

 

But for me you just cant beat that feeling of driving an Oldskoolford and when i hav'nt got one on the road it the excitement i get thinking about when its all done that keeps me going

 

Would be interesting for all and possibly some inspirational storys to help others see light at the end of the tunnel

I feel the same really mate, I love the cars in general... well all old cars to be honest. I also like driving them. But, that said, I hate always sitting on the edge of the drivers seat just waiting for something to go wrong.

 

It certainly isn't anything to do with the admiration from other people, because most people round here are blind to such motor vehicles, and will more than likely get on there horns and shout insults at you when your broken down and in the way.

 

I do like the feeling I get inside when I manage to give a 40/50 year old engine life. Just hearing them splutter into life makes me do sex wee if i'm honest. Take Nettles' sidevalve for example... 50 odd years old, and after a quick check over & some quality paintwork from Nettles, ended up firing into life quite nicely. A quick juggle with timing and mixture adjustment, it runs silky smooth.

 

I wont deny, mine has been really trying, this is now it's 3rd 1300 engine, and at the moment, this one is touch and go. But tomorrow I shall drive it to work regardless and no doubt I will make someones day for bringing it out

i've had plenty of ups and downs with the fiesta over the last year, and loads of people who saw it when it arrived said it was a piece of scrap and that it would never see the road again, thats been one big inspiration to prove them wrong . And i can't stop working on them , reading about them etc. OSF's are in the blood and there is nothing you can do about it

Took a Mk1 and a Mk2 transit to Symmonds Yat last week end. Had to fit 2 batteries and a starter to the Mk1, and still had to bump start her to get there. When we arrived the Mk2 was missing an indicator , which had been ejected on the motorway.

 

BUT when the sun in shining and you drive past that big shop window, it makes you smile..........

just the fact they look so different compaired to all the tat on the road today they go and sound great too

 

I also like the fact that its different from the rest,even though my friends and some of my family don't get it!

 

For me its the social thing that comes with owning a OSF too.

Meeting alot of new friendly people ,attending alot of car based meets/events, keeps us as a family very busy

but as you probably know the Jenkins family passion is Drag racing so the OSFDC has to be the highlight of owning a OSF

When i drive the Capri i know i have a smile on my face, a big smile. no matter how much of a bitch the car i to work on sometimes nothing beats the feeling of driving a quality OSF!

Likewise i have never driven mine on the road but my dads has given me the inspiration and the fact of driving it near an (insert possibly posh, supposedly fast, modern motor here) as gonzo said and getting all the looks when said sports car gets none the look on the other drivers face is priceless for 1 or coming back 2 a carpark with a few fans awating

For me, The pleasure I get most from mine is not having to prove anything!!!!

It's difficult to explain really... but I am more likely to let someone get on with goading me into chasing them in the RS as I am the one with the car that people want to look at so I dont need to prove anything. Makes for a calmer, more pleasurable drive.......

.....And nice to know it goes if you really need it to ruin someones day:)!!!!

I have sometimes been despondent in the past when somethings not working, and because I don't have a great deal of mechanical knowledge I have had to rely on others,

 

But true to form there have been people on this site that have come to the rescue and gone out of their way to help me.

 

To me that's what has made Old Skool Ford what it is today

I know you have a bit of a crap time of late with your car mossy but your heart is obviously in it and when you do iron out those problems your having and your driving your oldskoolford with the biggest fookin smile ever you will then realise why you do it

My defining moment of getting mine back on the road (after 5 years of waiting)came this Monday morning just gone while driving to work through Maidstone.Had both windows wound down,arm resting on top of the door,shades on,sun beating down & the Beach Boys on the stereo singing Good Vibration's quite loud,real FORD ANORAK STUFF!! Keep focused on what your OSF is going to look like,work on it when you can,collect up the parts you need over a period of time,look at other members of this Forum's cars for inspiration & soon enough your be driving around in a QUALITY bit of OSF kit!

drove mine from Manchester with my dad and all i got was looks in a good way, and the cars looks amazing, rallying legends, that's why i drive mine.

 

i dint have entrance but i dove my mate to school and as i dropped him off i let their car go mad and the hole school turned that's the other reason i love her so much

Well, to be honest, i spend literally ALL my spare cash on my escort (and alot that i dont have~ cheers ma ). Seriously, you should see my wardrobe, i am still wearing clothes i had when i was 19!! Holes in my socks and pants etc...

But it is literally all i give a toss about really, just when i open my garage door and see it sitting there (especially now its re-paintd!) just makes my sex wee leak out of all those holes in my pants.

Besides, they are an investment too, get them looking great and mechanically sound and the value just increases! Cant be a bad hobby really!

I am yet to get my mk1 on the road but when i do and after a journey in it with all my bones rattled out of thier sockes and my fillings shaken out, i will still be grinning from door window to door window!
