72mk1escort Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 As above what sort of fuel economy could i get from a 1700 crossflow on Dellorto Twin 40's once its all set up properly? Let me know guys Cheers
bomber1 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 i wouldnt worry about or u wont once your car starts barking on the 40s
72mk1escort Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 I know it will sound good but i need to know a rough economy
Fiesta Steve Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 About 20 miles to the gallon. It totally depends on how you drive your car. All the time you are accelarating the carbs are pouring the juice in, anyone that has opened the thottle with the carbs off the car will know what I mean. If you do a long journey at steady throttle you'll get a bit more out of your tank full.
72mk1escort Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 20 miles to the gallon Is that careful driving? What do you get if you drive it hard then?
Fishtailparka Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 25mpg if you are careful. About 10mpg while having fun.
davreeve Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I know its not the same engine(cvh)but its 1700cc and running twin 40,s.I worked out the mpg of my fiesta travelling to shakey and back last Sunday and it managed 34mpg driving steadily with a four speed box. If i drive like a loon it drops to around 15 mpg
Fiesta Steve Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 20 miles to the gallon Is that careful driving? What do you get if you drive it hard then? As the others have said m8, when driving careful and on a steady throttle you can see ok mpg, but when you acclearate they pour the fuel in the mpg drops. My 20 mpg guesstamate was a kind of average guess of a bit of each style of driving.
petrolhead Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 yep, I agree. Best I've managed is a GPS verified 29.8mpg and that is in ideal conditions - steady 50-60mph cruise. Realistically it will be 20-25mpg. Thrash it and it will probably drop below 20mpg, especially with a lairy cam.
livewire7116 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 If your worried about what mpg its going to do then maybe you shouldnt fit 40s! ive had my old pinto on a 38dgas down to about 8mpg when road rallying, wouldnt think twice about a full tank in less than 60 miles
Doc Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 20 miles to the gallon Is that careful driving? What do you get if you drive it hard then? F@@k and all mate LOL
NginEEr Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 lol i darent think how much i use. i spent £25 in a day around the doors in my fiesta when it had a 32/36. Ofcourse i was driving like a nutter
Fiesta Steve Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Back in the day I used to use £20 a night, every night !! just racing around
Rick Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 i wouldnt worry about it mate. ten quids worth of fuel will give you a good hour of spanking. what else could you get for £10 that would make you feel that good?
wild pete Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 i agree i keep putting a tenner in and going for a sat afternoon thrash , cant beat it
Mick The Cabbie Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 My 1600 x flow Escort in standardish tune only did 140 miles on a full tank. About 20 mpg I think.
72mk1escort Posted October 5, 2008 Author Report Posted October 5, 2008 yep, I agree. Best I've managed is a GPS verified 29.8mpg and that is in ideal conditions - steady 50-60mph cruise. Realistically it will be 20-25mpg. Thrash it and it will probably drop below 20mpg, especially with a lairy cam. Does'nt sound to bad then I mentioned to the guy im getting the engine from i might not fit them he said you need to or you wont have much fun
mk1super Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 40'S-CROSSFLOW, BIG FUN-LOW FUEL!!! Agree 100% with the above But i'd also get the car on the rollers for some tlc Once my carbs got a re-ajustment i found fuel econemy slightly better, but not much
john_3.0s Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 i wouldnt worry about it mate. ten quids worth of fuel will give you a good hour of spanking. what else could you get for £10 that would make you feel that good? thats only 2 gallons, u must drive like an old man mate! that wouldnt see more than 40 miles on a good day. TBH i have never notice much difference in mpg between a dgav and 40s on the same engine. depends how u drive it though.
mk2phil Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 Got the same setup you're asking about and as the guys have said, if you cane it you'll see the fuel gauge fall in front of your eyes, but just poodling about with sensible driving and its very good. Problem is, when you hear them barking away - sensible is no longer a word that exists in your vocabulary! Personally, I could NEVER have an OSF without 40/45's - they're awesome!
aaron735 Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 roughly worked mine out this week 1660 twin 40s ported and polished few other bits done driving pretty much like i stole it most nites and i got about 20ish to the gallon
mk1super Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 What could you expect for a 2.0 pinto on 45s and a 2.1 on 45s?
Fiesta Steve Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 What could you expect for a 2.0 pinto on 45s and a 2.1 on 45s? A bit less than a crossflow
mk1super Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 What could you expect for a 2.0 pinto on 45s and a 2.1 on 45s? A bit less than a crossflow Deffo need a bigger tank then
