antz Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 sounds like your going great mate and with the support of a good family round you even better and as for cf show i drank a bit to much well alot to much and it ruinned it a bit for me as i enjoyed cf the year before even more so ill be there staying sober with you mate cool and i imagine antz will be sober too sometiems its funny watched everyone get pissed and do stupid things kidna like ford fair 2007 when burns got wasted and was trying to cook sausages in the dark at 1am... youll be alright dave....im just a text away if you wanna chat and stuff
richie_stix Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I used to smoke tons of weed, and i mean lots! i had to quite as it was weed or my missis, so she came first! it was well hard, tried weening myself and stuff, the biggest problem for me is boredom/being on my own! keep occupied, be with someone who aint a bad influence, play computer games.... i found i often smoked and watch comedies/films and found it hard to watch them/find them funny at first but it went away! x box killed loads of the time for me! KEEP BUSY, the devil makes light work of idle hands and well done for getting thus far, wish i had had some pills that made weed physically impossible to smoke!
Stu_B Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Always keep your car keys handy mate, the responsibility of driving is sometimes the only thing that stops me drinking
pauline Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 you doing realy well keep it up. I go through stages of drinking a lot then not drinking at all but have found it is more fun watching everyone else getting drunk and rembering it the next what I have done. support of friends and familiy is a great help even if you dont always want to lisen to them. sometimes they can be right. Iam trying to help a friend of mine to stop drinking and its not easy. I have decided that iam not going to drink anymore due to the medacation am on plus were i had the accident in my car the other day I had been drinking the night before so can not say for sure what corsed me to crash.
Durham Fiesta Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 sounds like your doing spot on dave i've never been through anything like this my self but can only guess at how hard its been for you. T
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 It takes a big man to face his problems, so big respect to you for that Unfortunatley I have never been in this situation as I don't drink, but like others have said, keep your car with you, hang with a mate that doesn't drink and that can act responibly enough to keep you on the straight and narrow. Most of all, just think of your family mate. I should imagine that they are very proud of you for making it this far, so next time you have the naughty thought of a drink, think of them and the disappointment they will have in you failing. Best of luck mate
mk1super Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 As said takes a big man to admit to his problems, and much respect for doing that! My uncle is an alcoholic, after he got early retirement he was at a loss as to what to do with his time, so went to pub and slipped down the slide from being a social drinker into being an alcoholic, at the age of 55, so it can happen at any age! I asked him sometime ago how he was coping away from the booze he said after the councling, medication ( As he too was on the puke pills as he called em!) AA meetings etc he found that keeping himself busy was the way forward, he redecorated the house with the money he wasnt spending on alcohol, and did the garden too and he spends alot of his time with his grandkids and also volounteers too, he feels by being depended on, to be at places and to do things, it keeps him away from the pub. As Jim bob said you have your family mate and alot of friends who want you to succeed, and you dont seem the type of guy who lets down family or friends so stick with it bud
over_head_cam Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I don't drink Dave so I can't really offer any suggestions. I will say well done though m8, and I hope you stick with it

louie bagel Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 sounds like your doing a brilliant job mate just stick with it and the only sujestions i've got is when ever you feel like a drink just come on here and talk to us that should take your mind off the the subject (not that i know what your going through, just guessing). and huge respect for ants for taking the time to help you nice one matey
accord83 Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Stick with it buddy, think of the saved cash. When I gave up smoking in 1982 I went from a Renault 4 and 60 a day, to a 3litre Granada Ghia, just so I had no money for fags, well that's what I told the wife. Been cold turkey (not nice) after getting a liking for some heavy pain relief, and I now would rather have the pain than go through that again. But still get the craving sometimes. I can't drink, but will be off to the pub shortly, and the only time I miss it is when everyone starts talking fluent the round ones around 1am, as I'm the only one who cannot understand what's being said, but it is funny to listen to John
Mr Sam Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 they allways say the biggest part of the problem is admitting to others not just yourself about said problem so letting the OSF masses know what your doing you must be well on the way now, congrats on your progress mate and keep at it

X-pack-Glyn Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 i know its a serious subject, me old man was one for years... im came close to it myself during the early 90s i was well on my way to becoming an alky just like me old man... but i found the answer in hardcore porn, i predominantly drank heaviest whilst at home alone, so everytime i got the urge for a beer i left it and watched some hardcore porn and bashed one out instead... it worked quite well! thats all i can think to sugest really.
bronze4door Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 buy another car little or big project to take your mind of things

FredTransit Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 I have no time for people who have a dependency, but all the time in the world, and respect, for somebody who beats it. I know you will always be 'recovering' but the 4 month milestone is a third of a year. Soon it will be a year, then four, and I am sure (though don't have any experience myself) it should get easier over the years. Keep it up, you are obviously going in the right direction. Best of luck!
GT_lenny Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 I've never experienced what you have all I can say is well done And if you need help with keeping occupied take the money your saving through not drinking and go buy yourself a YB lump and rebuild it with all the other money your saving by the time your finished you'll really have something to show for your determiation, hard work and cash instead of wetting the bog wall Well done
