I've got a 2 door and a 4 door Mk1.

The 2 door is much faster, maybe that's it.

I've had loads of them over he years and I honestly couldn't tell you how many doors each one had. Not something I take much notice of.

Nothing worse than a peskie Escort  and a 2 door is peskier than a 4 8)

Is there such a word as peskier  there is now

difference between a 2 door and a 4 door ... apart from the number of doors..

The 2 doors are lighter and stronger...

But, fast forward a few years, and pick up the BTCC Supertouring rules and the shells would all be 4 doors.. You wouldnt be allowed to race a 2 door.

Thats an interesting.

I have been under the impression that 4dr shells are the stronger ones with them having more curves in the shell.

However, if one person is going to know either way I'd have put my money on you

i two heard that more doors were structurally stronger too... but retro is a chasis guru!

Take a Cardboard box and cut 2 holes in it ... flex it ..

now cut another two holes in it .. flex it ...

end off ..

They are stronger in some respects.. ie drop something on the roof, the extra metal in the B and C pillars make it stronger, but in car shell design its the torsional rigidity thats important, and 4 doors can twist more than 2 ... in modern cars this torsionaly rididity is aided by bonded in screens and is needed due to the fact that they cut a huge hole in the back, the hatchback, which effectivly opens one end of the box.

I'll never forget one day way back when though, 2 cars 4 blokes 4 ladies.. the words 'lets go'

The 4 doors of the the 4dr slammed and the car roared off... while the two ladies where still trying to get in the back of the 2 dr without showing their knicks off... the 4dr was just a spec in the distance when the 2 dr moved ..

Thanks Retro, knowledge is power :wink:

I don't 'get' putting others choices in cars down, we're all driving these old fords for the fun not to nit-pick or judge each other.

What really matters is being out there and putting some miles under the wheels :ykt:

never was as good as the 3 door era though, and now the touring cars aint worth looking at :(

Oooh now thats another can of worms ..

The pundits will always say the best days of the BTCC was the Supertourers years ...

I will say go back a few more years to the 70's ... gentlemen racers, slacks, and flat caps, string back gloves, white and pale blue overalls .. Castrol R and a few metal pins with bunting between separating you and the race cars ... and yet thats still beaten by the best touring car racing of all ..The DRM/DTM

i find sometimes, some people try and segregate cars to the point where they end up sounding like thier own exact car is the pinacle of motoring finesse :? (bronze4skin take note  ) like escort owners with thier 2 or 4 doors or pinto/crossflow boswellox

e.g. capri owners will be stoopidly loyal to thier paricular engine type, but both will 'join forces against' an escort owner (as they ar'nt as good as capris  ) but in the face of a vauxhall owner, we will all 'ford gang up' on them (cos they're shit :ykt: ) , then as car owners together, perhaps we will all sneer at bikers due to them being repressed homosexuals wanting to dress like power rangers  etc etc :(

is all a bit mental, and you would never catch me spouting any of this nonsense  but a 2.0 capri in rosso red with 15'' minilites is probably the best car ever
