100edave Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 the amount of these i scrap........even today! I think half the amount of filler ever made is in Metros!
OldskoolSue Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 I also learnt to drive in a metro with BSM i also owned a red one many many years ago and the exhaust fell off
Mr2Caps Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 I had a light blue metalic MG Metro, when I was 18, had a rather large accident in it and now my knee has a nice little hollow that fits exactly around the lower half of a Mk1 metro dash! Still have the scars on my arm where it went through the side window, was still removing glass from my arm 5 years later as it worked its way out! I can confirm therefore that it is not a good idea to test their structural integrity against a Renault Master van thats loaded with a printing press!
zetecmk2 Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 mg metro.....best doner car ever!! 10 yrs ago, they were free, just knock on the door, they'd give you the keys, to stop the council taking them and getting fined for no tax!! many happy cheap mini builds but the 6r4..... when the gt is built, it's near the top of the list!!!jesus....just look in the back of one!! 1"x1" box section everywhere! yep....i love a 6r4
Boreham Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Here's a better pic the pic I posted is one of the orignal prototypes.... which I eluded to being made through accident in a Tesco car park.... Tesco = as being the Metro's natural habitat...
bortaf Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I had an MG turbo for a while, it had red seat belts. that is all Not that's all it had, that was all that was good about it
Mr Sam Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 my nan had a grey autin metro 1.1 then a red rover 100 1.1 then had a courtesy car when a lorry smashed the back end in, she preffered the courtesey car so got one of them.......... the metros younger sibling (which i learnt to drive in) Nissan Micra YO 998cc 16v.........my nan recconed the 16v was equilevant to the extra 100cc of the metro
immingham Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 My first car was a brown metro city EWD-254Y. When you used to stand on the brakes the O/S headlight would fall out Oh the joy of British motoring
ratman Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Also learnt to drive in one and passed my test 1982 dont remember it being 2 years old dark blue basic modle on my test a kid came out between the parked cars after a foot ball I stod the metro on its nose and shot the testers papers off his lap on to the floor after he picked them up and asked if I was ok we carried on a few hundred yards done the road he said no need for the emergency stop
FredTransit Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 I have no memories of the metro. I learnt to drive in a Mk2 escort I picked the driving school because of it!
davreeve Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 I had a 1.0 metro on a 'Y' reg with a whining (badly ) gearbox for about a week until i pulled out of a blind junction ,saw there was a lorry coming so i gave it some right foot only for the gearbox to explode and the lorry took the front end clean off Happy days!
GT_lenny Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 I bought a metro tubo once- the guy had won some mg club hillclimb with it he was ever so proud- i got it home and turned it on its side removed the engine and stuck it in my mini then cut it up into pieces that fitted into the wheelie bin
Chris! Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 A friend of mine had one of these as her first car, she could hardly turn the wheel as it had no power steering bless her
over_head_cam Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Hello, my name is OHC and I have also owned a Metro (and a Rover 111) I had a black MG with red belts also which I drove from Brixton to Addington in 2nd because the oil fell out of the gearbox and a couple of years back I fitted a garage door for a bloke and he gave me a 111s and part payment. it made it to Norwich and back without melting but when the alarm got stuck on and a new remote was 15 quid I gave it away
zetecmk2 Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 i don't think the 111 should be included in a "metro" topic!!!
you'll get 10s on that Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 In the early 90's I did a 1000 mile trip in one day to France and back stopped only for fuel and toll roads. Arrived at desitination at 3o/c in afternoon....had a 1 1/2 hour meeting and then drove back got home (Wallington ) at about 1.30am having left at about 5am the previous morning.............took me about a week to recover....but in fairness the Metro didn't miss a beat.
accord83 Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Some years ago I helped a mate collect the ex Tony Pond 6R4 from Coventry Museum and take it to Janspeed so the original engine builder could check it over (Coventry hadn't started it for 4yrs). Good job we handballed it onto the trailer as when they stuck an endoscope in it the valves were stuck open. I've eaten heavier pies, what a little beast of a thing.
gpcmatric Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 I reversed my mk1 estate into my grandads brown metro he wasnt happy
JAY PS Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Or headmaster at school had a silver MG Metro from new ,every term bits used to fall off and wings just disappeared !!!!!!!!
