joe1600 Posted November 19, 2009 Report Posted November 19, 2009 I was reading through the latest Classic ford an one article caught my attention. "Weigh it up" I never realized how much some stuff weighs!!! So after reading through with great interest I proceeded outside to make my car lighter. I’ve taken most of the interior out, Back seat, Rear door cards, heater, Sun visors, under dash shelf, rear half of the carpet and swapped the spare wheel and original jack for a space saver. What a difference that has all made!!! The car only has a 1100 but by god it's a dam sight quicker!!!!!
lotusless Posted November 19, 2009 Report Posted November 19, 2009 what instead of 81mph flat out it now does 82mph?
joe1600 Posted November 19, 2009 Author Report Posted November 19, 2009 it just acselarates alot better n becasue of the 3.77 diff i can see just over 90mph
mk1mexico Posted November 19, 2009 Report Posted November 19, 2009 You need to change your name to Joe1100

joe1600 Posted November 20, 2009 Author Report Posted November 20, 2009 why nt ? i supose i'm a bit backward but i like all the noise but there again thats wot i am used to, very basic Noisey cars
bigglesmk2 Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 Mines even lighter than yours,i too stripped out the interior and all the crap out of the boot took the windows out ,axel, front struts ,engine...bet mines wel fast now
samurai Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 Mines even lighter than yours,i too stripped out the interior and all the crap out of the boot took the windows out ,axel, front struts ,engine...bet mines wel fast now Change it from a 4 door to a 2 door then it will be lighter and faster
mk14dr Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 Sounds like a plan Joe, I'd be interested in seeing how quick your stripped out 1100 is compared to my 1600 full of crap. Your in my hood, and I haven't seen you about. Looks like I'll have to keep my eyes peeled
Admin Vista Posted November 20, 2009 Admin Report Posted November 20, 2009 why nt ? i supose i'm a bit backward but i like all the noise but there again thats wot i am used to, very basic Noisey cars Mines loud enough (and quick enough) without stripping it out but my real reason for not removing the back seat is that I can't see my wife agreeing to slide around on the rear floor when my sons car seat is in the front. If I removed the rear seat she'd have to stay at home Where's my screw driver, it's coming out today
bigglesmk2 Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 Mines even lighter than yours,i too stripped out the interior and all the crap out of the boot took the windows out ,axel, front struts ,engine...bet mines wel fast now Change it from a 4 door to a 2 door then it will be lighter and faster Tiz a 2door Sold the 4door afew months back,i just like the sig pic of it is all
Fiesta Steve Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 I was quite surprised that Classic Ford didn't mention the effect stripping your car has on the suspension and brakes... (unless I missed that bit. lol)
Toby Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 I must be getting old because I was suprised that Classic Ford made NO mention to the fact that some of our cars say Historic Vehicle on their log books and actually qualify for free road tax because of this fact. It seemed "rip it appart" was the order of the day - with no mention of storing the unnesessary weight somewhere safe. Everyone to their own, but I thought the mag should have combined weight saving and being responsible for 30+ year old cars. See - I am showing my age!
RossMK2 Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 i acctuly agree and im young iv kept all the original parts off my car
Retromotorsport Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 Toby, next you'll be saying your aiming for 200 horse on Bio-ethenol
Toby Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 Toby, next you'll be saying your aiming for 200 horse on Bio-ethenol When I had my engine on HT's dyno Aaron looked at the big brass water heater control valve screwed in the head, looked at me puzzled, and started calling me Fred Dibnah
ratman Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 Wayne at WPE moans at me for putting bit on the car not takeing them off
Retromotorsport Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 Toby, next you'll be saying your aiming for 200 horse on Bio-ethenol When I had my engine on HT's dyno Aaron looked at the big brass water heater control valve screwed in the head, looked at me puzzled, and started calling me Fred Dibnah Wait till he sees you've been digging out the old CCC mags and have been reading up on wobbly walkers results on greenalds dyno with the twin spark pinto .... it sorta worked till one plug shot out the head, Steve did say to Wobbly, are you sure chemical metal will keep those plugs in .. Ron favours his bike plugs ... lol
Retromotorsport Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 the definitive answer on lightning a car is this Power to weight ratio is important, but the lighter car with the same power to weight will always win .. unless of course your dropping them over a cliff. a 1000kg car with 1000bhp will be beaten by a car thats 500kg with 500bhp . It accels and decels quicker, and has a lower moment of inertia in a turn ..in other words it dosnt want to fly off sideways into the tyres
zetecmk2 Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 the twin spark pinto.........when i read that, it didn't seem that good for the cost!.....(i'll dig it out later, i know where it is!!) anyway....interiors are for flowers!! (un-offensive good pc!!)
deltamal Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 Going for a carbon fibre bonnet for the strip next year, Mr Ford's original weighs a lot!
