mk3tina Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 in the flesh, my car. i still fume to this day the lies i was told about how solid it was, when actually the inner sills were pieces of aluminium street signs chopped up and riveted over the rotten through originals. along with fibreglass chassis rails. Sorry did you just say FIBREGLASS CHASSIS RAILS??? some people have got no morals, what if u crashed that? if i crashed it, i can only assume that i wouldnt be here to tell you about it lol. i bought it from a member on here who has or had a couple of cars on the go and a few for sale, so i thought id be safe buying from him. it WAS awful, what i was told was a solid car that just needed a little touch up here and there ended up needing the following:- chassis rails front to rear, inner and outer sills, both footwells and kick panels, boot floor, rear wheel tubs, front and rear valance, both wings, rear arches, subframe to chassis mounting points repaired, all 4 doors. and none of it was just a little rusty either, it was either completely rotten or bodged with fibreglass and filler and covered in underseal.

Silverback Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 in the flesh, my car. i still fume to this day the lies i was told about how solid it was, when actually the inner sills were pieces of aluminium street signs chopped up and riveted over the rotten through originals. along with fibreglass chassis rails. Sounds like mine too. Very solid and looked after..... Then I uncovered this: All very well hidden under top plates and waxoyl of course.... Apart from that, Johns Mk1 Cortina is the rustiest Ford I've come across, although no pics of that yet.
mk3tina Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 no biggles it wasnt you i bought it from, i got it in june 2007 ish, i wont name who i bought it from mind on the open forum, unless someone really wants to know so they can avoid them, in which case id say pm me. anyhoo with regards to the possible arsey comment of spending time and money on a 4 door, its my car, i choose to spend MY time and MY money on it, and now it has the structural strength of a battleship since ive given it my magic touch, what was once a death trap, is now death proof.
Andrade Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 does anyone else feel genuinely bad when he sees great cars rotting away? :\
MM77 Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 does anyone else feel genuinely bad when he sees great cars rotting away? :\ Its kind of like a dying dog. Always feel bad when i see an animal die, but couldnt care less about a human

It was actually a compliment about someone taking the time to do a lot of work on a four door, which from what I can see is rare on here. Not just here but on other forums too. There are a few examples of course so there is no need for anyone to post them up to try and prove me wrong, but usually it's 2 doors which have the most money and time spent on them. That is just the way I see it. It wasn't an arsey comment pointed at anyone.
Boreham Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 my mate in his mk1 escort nice lhd car... post 69 spec with anti roll bar. sweet.....
coco24v Posted December 13, 2009 Report Posted December 13, 2009 First one is an ex rally car i bought qbout 15 year ago, guy i got it from was desperate for money so got it for £200 ! 2.1 with BVH, 45's, LSD, rocket box, etc etc etc, I ran it for about a month on the road then sold it on to this guy that used it for autotests and autocross, he used it for about a year then left it to rot ! Had not turned a wheel in about 12 or so year when this pic was taken a year ago ! Then this one was one of the mintiest 2dr shells i have ever came across... when i bought it it was a bream colour bog standard 1300 base model, never been welded or painted and had only done 28k miles ! I took it as a trade in and allowed £100 for it !! Fitted a 1650 X-flow and painted it red then fitted the Sport decals, ran it for a while then sold it on. The same guy that has the first one pictured above bought it and never did a thing with it... ended up in the same condition !!! Such a waste.
