Thanks for all your input guys :thumbsup: I shall have a good think about all your suggestions :D:thumbsup:

JAY PS - RED are a bunch of aRSes so there is no way I would go with them or any of the bigger names - it's all pay up front in the region of £4k - lots of class room based hours of teaching rather than out on the road actually practising/learning - not much 1 to 1 tuition (sharing your learning with 3 other people in the car). My trainer is 1 to 1 and pay as you go so I am spreading the cost. I know of someone who drives for RED and their franchise is £275.00 per WEEK ... so you have to earn £275 each week before you even start earning any money for yourself :sad: And ... BSM, AA, LDC are all very similar with very high franchise fees ... so I feel for your friend. Some BSM franchises are almost £400 per WEEK  It's a real shame that your mate is on such a downer ... if he wants to continue and is in the South/South East then get him to call my trainer/instructor Linn Webb as she is absolutely fantastic and she really, really cares ... not like the bigger companies where you are just a name - PM me for details

Fortunately I am still working full-time in my office job for the moment and have no plans to jump ship without first establishing my driving businesss. My trainer currently works 40 hours each week (over 7 days) and charges £27 per hour (for instructor training it's £35 per hour) and she is booked up for weeks and weeks ahead and has been running her business for 12 years now so I am looking forward to her help and advice which is what I am paying the franchise fee for (£20 per week on my trainee licence).

*YOUR NAME*'s School of Motoring

*YOUR NAME*'s Driving School

drive to thrive and live to drive and drive you round the bend sound a bit weak imho.

Word of mouth will get you work.

Not sure if it exists, but Freedom2Drive or Pass2Freedom would be good. Both are catchy, also states that learning to drive gives freedom, which when you're 17 would be a godsend to get away from your parents

Should I consider the town or the county perhaps :?

www.drivebordon.co.uk is an available domain name at the moment.

tricky one that, the whole county would be far too general but a single smallish town might be too restrictive

having said that drivebordon is short, easy to remember and does the job nicely.

when you branch out and get loads of other instructors working for you they could have say, driveliphook or driveliss as theirs :)

Flash Bordon............

or, Bordon Bennett!

I was going to train to be a driving instructor.i went onto a driving instructor forum and there seemed to be a lot of negitive threads reguarding the job so if put me off :(

If your looking for a cheap easy place to host yourwebsite i would recomend www.vistaprint.co.uk i got all my bussiness cards from them, they are cheaper than anyware localy, the website is so easy to build yourself its unreal, have a look at mine i did it all myself with no website building experance www.definedreflections.co.uk it costs me £9.00 a month i can have paypal payments, gallerys i am also in the proccess of a online shop page so i can sell products

Oh and i would bother advertising with yell.com or yellow pages, ive had one job in 8 months all my jobs are from people googling

Google add words is good aswell for getting your website to the first page, also register your self on googlemaps because that is free :)

 hope this helps and good luck

I think you should make sure that the name makes it clear that you are female, as some people want a female instructor, I don't know of many that specifically want a male instructor. So if you use your name in the title, make sure people know it is Jo and not Joe!

I agree I am drastically scaling down my advertising with Yellow Pages for this reason, it used to be ok but now most jobs come from word of mouth or via google. You may want to also look at the various 'breakfast club' type business referral meetings, they cost to join but they seem to work quite well for certain types of business.

CheeRS everyone for your advice :thumbsup: what a great bunch of peeps you are :ykt: .... some very interesting points to consider. Al, thanks for the link - your website looks very professional, well done mate 8):thumbsup:

I have now spoken to a member on here who has offered to build me a website (won't say his name in case he doesn't want me to  ) so the ball has started rolling and it's all very exciting as well as nerve racking :?:D Changing career and getting out of your comfort zone is quite a challenge but as they say "nothing ventured, nothing gained" so it's full steam ahead

Good advice from Smudger, Al and Lee, thanks guys  And your comments re. the Yellow Pages is very useful Al and Mr2Caps, cheeRS

I have now decided on a name but I won't divulge it until my website is built and up and running and then (for anyone who may be interested) I will put up a link :thumbsup:

Again, thanks everyone who has added their comments/advice to this thread, it has been a great help :thumbsup:

I also paid about £250 to adveritz for 6 months in them local booklets that royail mail deliver(not sure if you get them down south)

Again ive not had one job,i do a lot of bussiness peoples cars and have chatted with many of them, and everyone said google is the best place, you just need to get on page one,so you need a good person to optimize your site,or use addwords(you pay per click, so google are keen to get your website infront of the people googling driving lessons ect)

You will also get loads of phone calls from companys promising to get your site to page one,i avoid these as it can be done a lot cheaper than they charge
