Nicks53 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Afternoon all, On my online travels today I came across the following image: And from this website, allegedly there's rumour of a new Capri? Now I don't know much about the Ford and OSF scene but has anyone come across this before? Link to the article: http://blog.healyford.ca/index.php?m=05&y=09&entry=entry090510-230051
Copey Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 there have been a lot of different "New Capris" that pop up evey now and then and they always get it wrong, only one design does it for me and its from a private designer (who Ford should hire to design the new Capri!!! but prob wont!) anyways, here it is if the new capri looked like that i would be WELL happy!
MM77 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 That amber one is hideous. The silver one is awesome, but reminds me waaaaaaaaaaaay too much of an MR2.
sambo Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 If they made it, it would be FWD though no doubt. Ford NEEDS to make a decent RWD saloon.
Copey Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 If they made it, it would be FWD though no doubt. Ford NEEDS to make a decent RWD saloon. agreed!!! and it would probably have a diseasel in the range too
SebringRS Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I agree, the americans have brought back the classics such as the Camaro & Challenger. Maybe its time for Ford to bring back some classic british names to give them a run for there money
NginEEr Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 i wouldnt mind one of the private renderings and if there was a diesel option id probs have it too
2litreScapri Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Latest "pics" are on AutoExpress website. They say it's like a coupe styled Focus based on a Focus chassis (that'll be FWD then). And it'll be based on their "Kinetic" design language, which while quite nice, isn't that striking. Ford REALLY NEED to make a proper, RWD coupe again
Copey Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Ford REALLY NEED to make a proper, RWD coupe again hell yeah they do!! if Hyundai can do it why the hell cant ford?!
arch Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 it needs to be a classic simple but modern look rear wheel drive with tht 5 pot focus rs lump but inline the right way round in my opinion lol.
JAY PS Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 It needs to have classic lines be able to be modified and have the ability attract the Bmw owners etc Sadly Ford have lost their market share and they aint going to get it back All pipe dreams ,Ford still make cars that rust and that breakdown too much . Would love Ford to do a retro car i think its very unliklely to happen. The ST was launched three years ago and im informed that the model will come to and soon ,sales of these models have dwindled with the credit crunch ,i mean who can afford to run a 3.0 Mondeo or a 2.5 5 cylinder Focus ! The germans do this kind of car too well imop
deltamal Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I wanted to get a "big" Ford when they stopped the froggy Granada, was told at the earls court motor show that they did not need to make a big ford cos they had bought Volvo...

I would like to see Ford bring out a new car but not use the Capri name, they should think of a new one, I hate it when manufactures bring back old names Fiat Panda/500, VW Jetta etc. Also I dont think they should keep names running for too long as the car gets boring no matter how good it is. Ford Fiesta just doesn't sound exciting they really need to drop it as does VW with Golf and Polo two exceptionally dull cars.

sambo Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Apart from the RS focus, what else is there? The whole range is extremely dull! My girlfriend is looking at getting a new car soon and ford just isnt an option cos its all pants.
DarrenM Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 If they could use the Australian falcon or US Mustang platform, perhaps shortened a little they could be RWD and have 6 and 8 cylinder engines. The problem with the Mustang platform is the solid rear axle wouldn't be to European tastes. Facts are that if we do get a Ford Coupe then it will be Focus based and be a modern looking car, it's too risky to do a retro styled Capri as it probably wouldn't sell enough
nalaeroom Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 This is very old news from last May when I posted this on another forum The reason it is not nice is because Ford had nothing to do with it, I have it on very very very good authority that the Auto Express cover story is pure speculation.......... Beakster Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 The Capri was one of the best selling cars in Britain because it was something a bit different, and sporty but affordable. I don't know why Ford think that won't work again. It's not that "European's don't buy RWD cars with big engines", its that they don't have the choice to. You would think with the number of BMWs on the road these days, Ford would see that there is a market for a new Capri, or Granada. The Falcon would fit the bill for a new Granada perfectly. The Mustang would be great too, but something a little smaller (new Capri) to still feel sporty on the tiny British roads would be idea... I really don't know why they don't sell the Mustang in the UK. I'm living in Toronto just now, and the Mustang is one of the most popular cars on the road. I see probably about 40 of them every day on my way to work. I couldn't afford a decent one though, so I'm driving a 1997 Ford Thunderbird now. Still got RWD and a V8
RossMK2 Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 what about a big pertition from all osf and other classic ford clubs to make a rwd saloon. could be advertised in cf and rf could be massive ford may take note that there could be a large market or maybe im in a dream world
Admin Vista Posted January 29, 2010 Admin Report Posted January 29, 2010 I really don't know why they don't sell the Mustang in the UK. I'm living in Toronto just now, and the Mustang is one of the most popular cars on the road. I see probably about 40 of them every day on my way to work. How much is fuel in Canada these days?
Beakster Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 How much is fuel in Canada these days? Just under a dollar a litre, so probably about 55p per litre. Still though, look at all the people you see in big 4x4s and SUVs in the UK that don't ever go off road. People have the money to spend on fuel. New Mustangs get about 26Mpg, which isn't much different to what a lot of us get with our modified OSFs. To put it into perspective, the new Range Rover gets 18Mpg and the Porsche 911 gets 25mpg (All highway driving figures). There's plenty Range Rovers and 911s on the Road, so why not Mustangs? Especially as the Mustang will have a lower sell price and maintenance cost than a Porsche. Back to the original argument though, a new Capri would be smaller than a new mustang. Lighter = better MPG, and I'm sure there would be a 4 cylinder and V6 version like there was in the 80s.
In The Pit Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 For the last 5/6 years atleast most manufactures have been aiming the market at the over 50's as thats where the money is people are living alot longer and at that age group they tend to have the money (mortgage payed, kids grown up, savings etc). Thats why cars are taller with larger doors, have bulky switches and easy to read dials etc. There are loads of people in the UK who love sporty cars but dont have the money to buy them brand new so manufacturers need to design what they can sell. Also with high insurance/fuel prices, speed cameras and sleeping policemen everywhere having a fast car isn't as attractive as it used to be.
RossMK2 Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 just read about it on auto express a rs vesion with a 3.2 litre engine with 4 wheel drive is option they looking at
Doc Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 If they made it, it would be FWD though no doubt. Ford NEEDS to make a decent RWD saloon. They do its called a Mustang GT500
