john_3.0s Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 so i bought a whole set of seals for my Capri, not cheap but i needed them. Can't say I'm impressed. door channel is completely wrong, the drop glass wobbles all over the place the profile is completely different dimensions! the weather seal is useless as well it doesn't even touch the glass Any ideas what the screen seal will be like? or should I be sending that back too before I even bother to attmept to fit it. now ive not spoken to them yet to discuss my problems but I wonder if other have experienced the same thing?
Twinkle Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 reckon they may have sent the wrongonesout by the look of it.
sambo Posted July 27, 2010 Report Posted July 27, 2010 Gotta be the wrong ones John. I got my escort rubbers from there and they are spot on.
Admin Vista Posted July 27, 2010 Admin Report Posted July 27, 2010 My experience of them with regards to capri parts is very old (circa 1998) but the photo's of the window weather seals shown above match my experience 100%
D-FENS Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 This is a real pain in the arse as i will need front and rear screen seals, door opening rubbers and weather seals on windows soon and it seems to be pot luck with both east kent and aldridge as to quality of parts .People often say "join the club there parts are great",but you should be able to buy stuff from these companies and it should be "fit for purpose" .
livewire7116 Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 www.coh-baines.co.uk try these people for your rubbers, website is pretty shite but ring them is best option, good quality rubbers not sure if they door profiles but worth a try
Twinkle Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 what about woolies trim? they do loads of profiles and sizes by the metre
Fishtailparka Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 I got a full set for my Mk1 Capri and must say I was quite impressed with the fit. The screen seals on a Mk1 Esort are a reasonable fit, but crack after a month. Fella from there said use petrol to lubricate them.
bortaf Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 All the cortina stuff i've had has been spot on, i recen they sent Mk1 stuff ? get on the phone and complain dont take it!
john_3.0s Posted July 29, 2010 Author Report Posted July 29, 2010 well aparently the channel is the wrong size (other people had complained too) so I can send it back and hopefully he will swap it. as for the weather seals he told me he hasnt ever had any problems 'in 20 years' and tried to tell me my doors have been re-skinned. ill try them again but otherwise they are going back too. Ill let you know how i get on!
livewire7116 Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 have you noticed a pattern yet with companys when you tell them thier products dont fit? "NAH MATE WE NOT HAD PROBLEMS BEFORE ITS GOT TO BE YOUR CAR"!
Yeomans22 Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 i had some stuff from them, and it turned out to be pretty good all in all, have a look here http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/bbCMS/shop ... tmentId=68 my neighbour used it and he said there stuff is spot on (for his MGB though)
MR "S" Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 i got all of my rubbers, door seals etc from East Kent-no probs for a MK or MK3. Just unfortunate i think..
john_3.0s Posted August 19, 2010 Author Report Posted August 19, 2010 So I returned the door channel (thay they admited was wrong after waithing 2 weeks for it to come in stock) and the weather seals (that were useless) as they asked me to, but now they wont give me my money back as they are saying they have not been returned in good condition (even though I used the same packaging they sent them in!). To make matters worse the screen seal corners were coming de-bonded as soon as I got it out the bag and it looks to be the wrong size anyway. The staff are rude and the products are rubbish I certainly wont be using them ever again. What a waste of money, its companies like this that give the whole 'scene' an bad name. In effect I should have thrown 70 odd quid down the drain and gon straght to Baines they are polite, knowledgable and even have a front desk you can go to to match up what ever profile you need and to top it all off they are significantly cheaper too! The chap at Baines told me they do supply some of east kents products but from what I have seen the difference in quality and service is a million miles away. Beware chaps use them at your peril!!!
fezza Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Hmmmm,i was going to order some new seals from there for my mk2 but not so sure now,i think it come to about £165 plus p&p,dont really want to take the chance now though you'd think they would realise that people are going to share thier experiences with other, either that or they just dont care
Chris! Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Gotta say the Mk1 Cortina 2 door rear side window rubbers are appalling
RossMK2 Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 well i have only had weatherstrip they were ok but if for example water on a window and you wind it down it dont scrape water off they are virtually touching window though he also told me when i bought them at ford fair 09 that i should need 4 lenghts for a 4 door when i only needed 2 so that was £15 i didn't need to spend im still trying to sell them
stephens_xpack Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 I wouldn't stand for not getting your money back. I would write a letter threatening all sorts of action and that you will spread on placing like this your experience with them. For the sake of 70 quid you would think they would be smart enough to realise it's not worth the dent that their business could take, state trades description to them and ombudsmans etc.
Mrs O/H/C Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 I have to say that we have bought many items from East Kent Trim for many years and have never had any problems
john_3.0s Posted August 20, 2010 Author Report Posted August 20, 2010 well i have only had weatherstrip they were ok but if for example water on a window and you wind it down it dont scrape water off exactly, the idea is that they also stop your doors filling up with water. they may look OK but if they are not hard up against the glass then they are useless - the bloke at east kent couldnt seems to understand this simple concept
Unclebuck17 Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 I was going to use them to replace most of the external trim and rubbers for my Escort, which I won't be doing now. So in essence by keeping your £70 he's lost a sale for double that and some. I wouldn't rest until you get your hard earned cash back and I agree with what others have said about using the forum's to air your views and explain the damage to his business that this will cause.
willsy Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 I got my front and rear screen rubbers from them and have to say they were spot on.
antz Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 got my screen rubbers from aldridge and it was brilliant. got one window channel from EKT because no one else had it and we had to mod it to make it fit.
shawnb Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 There seems to be a difference in seals supplied to the above companies. Am I right in thinking they don't actually produce their own seals ? There is a similar problem on a vw forun where a guy has been selling seals for campervans, the first batch were brilliant then unannounced his supplier changed suppliers and they don't fit. These seals are generally 'universal' fit and subject to change from supplier to supplier. Possibly that's why one guy buys say a mk2 escort screen seal 2 years ago and it fits when one bought from the same supplier today may not fit. I'm about to finally change most of my original seals on my mex and to be honest i'm dreading it - the rear quarter seal profile for instance looks smooth as opposed to having a slight rib like original.... can it really be that difficult for a manufacturer to make the decision to make dedicated seals for each model that fit and look like the original ???
