RFChris Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 So, my neighbour being the doofus that he is, left his car ticking over on the drive.....for an hour. This has proceeded to blow a hole out of the plastic capping on the rad, and now the engine sounds...well.....ill tbh. Gents, mechanics aren't my forte, neither are they his.....wtf has he done to his car? (a 3.5 V8 range rover btw) Chris

Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Yep, Range Rovers don't suffer with overheating as a rule. The Rover (Buick) V8 does have those problems, but when they have been fitted into other cars (BL Built). It was for this reason the USA dropped the import of the Triumph Stag. Although it was a lovley car, and one of the first to be a proper 4 seater convertible, the Americans found it underpowered. So, BL fitted their V8 into it, but, it kept overheating. The problem was so bad, the USA said "no more", and so all exports were stopped. There is quite a serious problem with some of the V8's though. Not sure whether it is just the 3.5's or if it affects the others as well, but apparently, if the coolant has not been looked after i.e. Antifreeze etc, the waterways corrode from the inside out with dramatic circumstances. Obviously as the V8 is an all ali engine, this would make sense, so look after your coolant!
