batterys in the boot so you think its more likely the battery than the starter.

also when it gets hot it struggles to start would i still get that problem with the high torque

decent output battery and also some decent gauge cable thru the car, too small and you will get immense voltage drop, i used 35mm2 earthing cable which i got from pro weld, i never had problems also its worth adding a couple extra earth straps to the engine, i used to have a battery from an astra turbo diesel van which was about 580amps

The Cosworth starter is much more powerful that the pinto one.

You can get your RS bellhousing modified by HT to take the cossie starter for around £75.

That said, i have bought a hi-torque starter from Peter Lloyd and i am yet to see what its like.

ring luke motorsport, 01296 415044, he actually supplies peter lloyd rallying and does them alot cheaper when you buy direct, im sure his price is around £110 last time i checked his mag, top bloke too, very helpful, also does 14" cooling fans for less than £40, and i just bought an 80amp alternator for £56 inc vat n delevery, highly recommended.

not sure how it will mesh with the Xflow flywheel but i allways use the high power starters from 2.0i granada pintos, they sell em on ebay with a load of bollox about how they are special made from ford parts but in reality they just get a pinto EFI H/D starter and add an earlyer solenoid with the 12V start boost pin on it, then they charge £180 odd for it

I have a Powerlite hi-torque starter on my pinto, it's made a huge difference but as said you need to make sure the battery leads are good and thick.

Rally Design sell them.

Are you sure its not an ignition timing problem ??

True, on one of my engines, i had to carry a 13mm spanner around with me.

i'd back off the advance to start it and when it fires, tweak it around again!

bloody thing.

I used to have trouble with burning out starter motors on my old pushrod engine! Managed to get hold of a brand new original ford starter and problem solved!! All these cheap nast ones from Euro Car Parts and the like are a load of poo!

Worth checking to see if your timing is not too far advanced tho!!!
