Admin Mk2Jo Posted January 17, 2011 Admin Report Posted January 17, 2011 This forum is great because it is a mix of ages, however, the majority of us are around the 30 - 50 year old mark .... so ... when you were a young un, what was the OSF that you REALLY wanted and were you actually able to buy/afford it or did you have to wait until recent/later years before you got it? Tell us your story and if you have any pics of you from "way back when".
jamesg Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 From as young as I can remember ive always wanted a Mk3 capri 2.8i special, so as soon as the insurance was right i got one. But now i would love..... Mk2 Escort 3 door estate Fiesta Mk1 XR2 Mk3 Escort RS1600 But i would have to sell the Capri to buy one, which i dont think i can do.
Retromotorsport Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 The F3L .... saw one and wanted one, wanted to learn all about it, and wanted to drive it, even though i was probably the same height as the car, watching Le Mans each year, back then it was just highlights, and later seeing the 1970 Flim Le-Mans ... with that heartbeat begining sold me on race cars, even though i used to mainly watch Rallying on World of Sport with Dickie Davies bumbling his way through interviews of Tony Pond (those of my age nmay recall the ' i was fine till that f**king easort landed on me' interview) It was racecars that got my mind going, the construction and moving componants around to aid the weight etc fascinated me. The F3l ... http://automobilewolrd.blogspot.com/201 ... -cras.html could have been so good.. sports prototype, which meant it had to have an open cockpit, but the rules never sated what size the hole had to be, so it got a 10" square hole... i love bending the rules. the Start of the Le-Mans race in the film .. turn your speakers up !
SmokeEm Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 I've always wanted a mint 3.0s Capri in black with carla check fishnets and sat on 7.5x13 RS 4 spokes Also always faniced a roof chopped corsair with a nice v8 in since I saw one at the pod a few years back
stuartp Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 i always wanted a mk1 escort and it tortured me somewhat that one of my best friends had a lovely one for a few years (until he smashed it up) but i couldn't afford a decent one and went through a succession of old bangers for a decade or more before i could finally think about getting a half decent escort (and that was only because after two years of trying i finally got a payout for an injury i got while cycling). i still can't really afford the escort and could really do with spending a fair bit on it but as i have no plans to sell it i guess i have to just be patient.
trakevlyn Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Ive always wanted a mk1 escort rs1600 twin cam (bda) in white with bubble arches after watching one kick some sierra cosworth butt at Goodwood RS test day back in the early 90s
fieldy1972 Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 ive always wanted a mk2 escort since i was a kid. my bedroom wallpaper was full up with rallly spec'd mk2 escorts . so im now on my third. i would love a gt500 shelby mustang now, but the only way i could afford one is if i made an illegal withdrawl of cash from my local barclays bank
capri71 Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Capri 2.8 injection. I was 7 when they came out. I would look round them whenever I saw one parked and could never resist giving the soft boot spoiler a squeeze with my sticky little fingers. Those fingers have grown and now hold the keys to a 1986 special
petrolhead Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 What a fantastic clip Gary, thanks for that!
Dazzler 666 Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Capri Mk.3 2.8i Special. When I was a lad a guy round teh corner had a black one he used to race standing quarters. I remember that deep throaty rasp as he started her up on a morning and drove past my parents house on his way to the local postie where he worked ... Best alarm clock in the world!!! . When I'd walk past it in complete orrr with my mam I'd say "Mam, one day i'm going to have one of those" and 'some' years later .... yippee, I have. A white 2.8 Special all of my own! Well, afterall it is the car you always promised yourself! lol.
zetecmk2 Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 the ultimate for me is the gt40 mk2. when i was a kid, i remember looking at pics of the 8 trumpets and bundle of snakes manifolds. i'm never going to be able to afford one....so i'm making one
Fiesta Steve Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Since before I could drive I wanted a 13 second Fiesta after seeing Dave Edmunds car become the fastest FWD car in the country. Fast foward 10+ years I have a 13 second Fez and now want a 12 second Fez

Tom Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 I'm not sure I ever dreamed about owning an old Ford, they sort of chose me. My first car was a Mk1 fiesta 1.1GL I had to have it as all the people at college had them (and a mk2 'Tina), this thing was great, it was light metallic green and as it was one of the last of the Mk1's it had Ghia trim. Then one day when I was 18, after helping a workmate move a metro for his neighbour, his mum told me about her dads 'crappy old escort' that he needed to get rid of as he couldn't drive it anymore due to his sight getting worse 2 days and £200 later I bought it and, 12 years later, I still have it!
Big_man Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 I always wanted a mk2 escort mexico since I was about 14, after seeing an older guy fishtailing one around my village. But recently have taken a keen interest in ford pop 100e's and mk1 cortina's, they look the b0ll0x.

4DOOR-SHERWOOD Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 I always wanted a MK2 escort RS2000 or a MK2 escort rally car! I used to see them as a little lad flying round with cibies on! telling dad i would have one of them one day!!!!!!!!!
sarkie83 Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 i always wanted a mk4/5 cortina as a kid. so the first osf i bought was a granada then the capri thing grew on me, and then i knew it was the one for me! it's the only car i've ever owned that i haven't got bored of!
xrt_si Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Ever since seeing Puddy's Mk2 Cortina on the cover of Street Machine as a kid I wanted one just like it. I've now got one
Top Ghia Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 I started work in 1982 and every morning i used to see a MK2 Escort RS 2000 come round a bend near work (sideways if it was wet ) Thats what i set my heart on. passed my test at 17 and had to settle for a MK1 Escort 1300, RS was way out of reach. The closest i got was a MK2 1600 Sport. Ive only just come back to the MK2 and the RS is still out of reach I have a very nice 1600 Ghia now.
MR "S" Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 my uncle had mk1 capri, i have always wanted one. now i have, brill.
Admin Mk2Jo Posted January 17, 2011 Author Admin Report Posted January 17, 2011 I always wanted a mk1 Escort .... couldn't afford one when they were out - wasn't bothered what model but I just wanted one .... then a bloke took me out in his mk2 white RS2000 when they first came out and it was the first car I went over 100mph in *ahem* roads were quieter then and I thought .... I want one of those one day .... now I've got one
supersport Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 MK2 2 door with x-pack arches, but got a 1.3 gl 4 door which i never got on the road as it was my first car at 16. got scrapped in 2005
DAZZA Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 My self and a mate jumped on our BMXs after school and rode 15 miles to to the nearest Ford garage to see the new S1 RST. It blew my mind! Came close to buying one but my boy was born so a mk5 cortina was purchased. Now he wants one, albeit a S2. How things go round! It was 1990 when we all passed our tests, we used to meet at local car parks. Mk1 and 2 escorts, 2-8 cappers, mk5 tinas, mk2 grannies and 105e. Id say 90% were hand me downs from parents or older siblings, we all actually wanted RST's, 205 GTIs R5GTTs and the like
Admin Mk2Jo Posted January 17, 2011 Author Admin Report Posted January 17, 2011 Many of them retro classics in their own right Dazza
