There is no denying that the majority of our Old Skool Fords are powered by either Ford or Vauxhall power plants with the odd smattering of jap power beginning to appear but what do you think the next 10 years will bring? With the ever increasing availability of fast, high power easy to chip engines, what do you think we will see more of appearing under the bonnets of our beloved Fords? :mrgreen:

I really want to put a Nissan skyline GTS engine in my mk3 Zephyr estate!!

 

or RWD an ST24/ST200 engine mated to Jag S-type box into a mk2 Consul...

 

but in the future i think more inline 5 Volvo/ST Duratec engines will be available, look at ebay and theres already a few from smashed up Focus's etc...

As diesel engines get smaller, lighter and more powerful, can anyone see one of these getting more popular?

 

Personally I'd quite like to see Italian engines coming back into the scene. These were popular twin cam conversions in the 70's and perhaps 80's but the likes of Alfa and Lancia still make some great engines.

i can see diesel's becoming more popular

 

and i think you might to see more of the audi/VW/Seat 20V turbos being used as there starting to get cheep from the brakers and there good for 350+ BHP with the right brain :mrgreen:

 

got a mate putting one in to a 300E van the only sticking point is the gear box as they dont come with a RWD box :(

 

but thats what engernearing companys are for :mrgreen:

I think the new generation diesel engines will be the way to go, I've just bought a Vauxhall combo van 1248cc turbo diesel, very nippy and 60 mpg! I am well pleased with it, my 3 litre turbo diesel Beamer, goes like shit off a shovel and 40mpg on the motorway, that would be a good engine in an old Ford! :thumbsup:

If its HP your after then i think as the Duratec evolves, its should be the engine of choice. It can only get cheaper.

So much power from a 4 pot :thumbsup: and its really light. What more could you want from an engine?!

 

I personally dont see the point in putting a Diesel into an old ford.

Its not what they are about.

A nice old ford clattering down the road.... NAAHH!!

 

Even the modern diesels, yes they are powerfull and economical etc but these cars arent about economy are they? Just buy a bloody diesel if thats what you want! :banghead:

 

Escorts should have 4 pots in them, YB, Pinto, X-flows etc, even red tops work but personally i dont think anything else really "goes".

 

I know it depends on what your into but seeing a modern Jap engine or a diesel in an old escort is just wrong IMO. What got us into them in the first place? The baarpp of twin sidedraughts etc, not bloody variable valve timing etc, thats for sure.

 

Imagine seeing a nice GT40 kit car at a show.... then the owner opens the hood and sitting in there is....... a pinto! or imagine a Diesel! Its just WRONG! it needs a yank V8. Full stop.

I agree with all you’ve said Sambo bar the Duratec bit…

 

I’m hoping in the future that alloy blocks will get cheaper than the current 4k making the mighty new-age YB/Pinto/x-flow accessible to more people as the way to go for big N/A horsepower. As you know the YB will go out to 2.6 giving proper power potential. Alloy YB heads are on their way from Burton, or already available from Connaught Warrior and not forgetting the current Daddy of them all the mighty Millington Diamond - I was recently offered a second-hand Millington with ECU for 10k, so these too will get cheaper over time and we may see more in street cars in the future. Before people come back with cost we are talking about the future here and while the Duratec is due respect don’t forget these too are by no means a budget option, it needs a conversion kit and many of the standard parts will be binned if you want big power…

 

It’s the new-age alloy YB/pinto/x-flow for me and it will bolt straight into your Ford using mostly stock parts, look the part, combine modern engineering, weigh roughly 30 kg for a full engine and go like fook… :hush:

ecoboost deffo even the 1.6 ecoboost goes well in a mondeo so a 2.0 that produces standard 180bhp in a escort and give nearly as good or as good as a diesel mpg, makes alot of sense.

 

personally few years down the line when i feel i have justified the money fr engine that i have just built i will be going zetec with the lotus cam cover to keep it looking some sort of period :thumbsup:

Heard a Bmw 530D engine was being fitted to a Mk2 Cortina a year or so back ,it was a engineering nightmare but would be excellent if it ever got finished

Vauxhall vxr 2.8 turbo engines maybe ?

Think a prius maybe taking things too far !

I saw that car at the USC show at santa pod earlier this year. It looked and went really well.. until something went bang and it was towed home :lol:

:lol: It definately was! the bloke came over to us to see if we had any easy start. I think they got it running in the end but only on one cylinder! so it was towed home lol

There will come a point where we will be bolting a electric motor to our gearboxes. Thinking about it its not such a bad thing look at that Tesla Roadster is 248hp and does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and it will be a conversion you can do in a afternoon. :lol:
