Do you remember the fuel demonstration last year when prices cracked a quid a litre? no, nor do I as only a handful of ppl could be bothered to protest against it, how about the anti-hunting loby? didnt get them far did it. Even the "petrol crisis" of about 2001 (?) was caused by only about 200 ppl. To be honest i think ppl in this country (esp the motorist) give a t0ss anymore as everyone knows the govt of the day will do what they want irrespective of the ppl it affects and all we can do is put our hands in our pockets (or run red diesel ) Sorry to sound negative but this is the situation as i see it. You might be right there but I say go for it. It is time for the hardworking general public to stand up and be counted and unless we are prepared to stand up and be counted and MAKE the government take notice they will carry on regardless and WE will be paying them to do so. I for one, although I do not have an OSF on the road at the moment, would be more than happy. We already pay road tax, we pay tax on our petrol, we pay VAT on the parts we buy for our cars, we pay fines for going 3mph over the given speed limit and unless good ole Joe Public is prepared to stand shoulder to shoulder and act as one, in unison, then this government WILL carry on. I think it is an excellent idea, not London tho, because you have to pay a tax to go there as well these days. Plan several in major towns or on major routes. Plan them carefully and pick good targets that will make everyone take notice. Go for it. Why dont we stand up for ourselves in this country anymore? If the government really dont give a toss about ppl like us then lets make them.
60ftman Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 AS FOR THE SCHOOL RUN 4X4 MUMS, JUS BLOW EM UP AND THE MORNINGS WOULD BE A LOT EASIER FOR EVERYBODY. And again, if the government were serious about reducing pollution & congestion they would provide a fleet of school busses like the Yanks do. Not school busses like we have - ones that if you live 1759 yards away from the school you have to walk (or get delivered), but if you live 1760 yards away the school let you pay £40 per term to get your kid picked up. I mean REAL school busses - properly funded ones that will collect every kid that doesn't want to walk. Each bus holds 50+ students, average school has 1000 students, that's potentially 1000 vehicles PER SCHOOL not on the road at rush-hour times. Oh, and don't make it voluntary - fine any regular 'drop-off Mum' £50 a day - they'd soon get the message! Woolfie lives!!

Admin Vista Posted February 8, 2007 Admin Report Posted February 8, 2007 Whilst I agree with all the sentiment expressed, I'm pretty sure deliberately blocking the public highway is illegal and therefore an arrestable offence. Police officers will probably have little choice but to cart people off and the whole exercise becomes pointless. Plus if you alienate the public too much by holding them up / causing congestion etc they will quickly forget that the actions of those blocking the roads are done with the best intentions, and the protestor quickly becomes the bad guy effectively swapping roles with the government that he is trying to highlight as the bad guy. I don't have the answers, but sadly the general public doesn't have the stomach for a real fight, and as soon as Mum can't get little Johnny to school, or Dad can't get to the office for an important business meeting, any support a protest has would collapse. I think the trick to success is to limit the governments ability to function without inconveniencing the population as a whole. How about something that affects government ministers & civil servants transport only? No more chaffeur driven limos, private planes or first class travel on business jets. Make them justify their need for a £4000 business class seat when the rest of us manage quite well on £400 for economy class, etc etc. Why should Sir Ian Blair have a free car at the taxpayers expense, he's a policeman not royalty?! The day we force government ministers to get the bus is the day we win.

We have worked out what we need is: Webmaster Person X 1 ----To set up a website Forum Convoy organisers x 5 ---- to register on as many automotive and non automotive forums to get intrest in the plan Forum Moderators x 8 ---- To modorate A on-site Forum and Accept new member registrations and to Grant acess to a "members only" area Inteligent people x 20 ---- To come up with Ideas and to constructivly discuss them in a Private forum room + some kind people to make any size donation to try and help fund this! If anyone is seriously intrested in doing this Please PM me you must have some spare time and ideas! We would also be nocking up some flyers for people to put in there car windows! this is the key to it working, the internet only plays a small part

Fl@pper Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 nearly started up a site idea a few years ago MAP - motorists against persecution never seem to have time though and to do my own little thing currently on way to high court in london to take on the secretary of state for transport over what started as a £30 DVLA fine for a late SORN now sat as a £350 county court judgement that has been appealed 3 times and not once has my evidence been taken into consideration or even acknowledged - local ex mp is a solicitor who is 100% behind killing the giants with me on grounds of injustice you wanna see the paperwork never give up i say and stay as stubbourn as a mule

What exactly are we protesting about, and (just as important) what intelligent solutions can we give to the problems? 2. The Motorist is one of, if not the, largest consumer group in the country. There are more of us than smokers, drinkers and even single mothers, so we must have some clout. There needs to be a concerted effort between the various motoring and car clubs (including HGV and Motorcycle organisations) to make this happen on a biblical scale. The government won't listen to 100 trouble-makers, but if there are 10,000 of us on the roads countrywide, then they are more likely to take note. We also need to alienate ourselves from the activists. I know that blowing up speed camera's seems funny, but it will make the public think we're terrorists if we even condone such a thing. Calm, non-violent protest. Get the public on our side. 3. We need facts. There is no point in complaining that "speed camera's don't reduce road casualties because there are still the same amount of people being killed as in 1990" if we haven't got cold, hard facts to back it up. This doesn't mean ripping some article off the internet, it means a genuine report produced by a reputable agency. Same with fuel tax. We need to know the % tax paid in all of the European countries (as we're in Europe we can't really compare ourselves with the UAE or USA). Not speculation. 4. In general, our (the British public) worst enemy is apathy. It'll be fine riding the crest of the wave at the first protest, but when things don't change (and they won't straight away) we need that enthusiasm of numbers to be solid through the second, third, fourth protest. I'm sure you lot will add more ideas, this is just a few I was mulling over whilst sat in traffic this morning. Woolfie Lives!!
