Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted October 7, 2013 Moderator Report Posted October 7, 2013 I like driving my OSF for what they are pretty much so dont really want to turn it into a rally car or a modified street machine or anything like that but a few things did annoy me to warrant changing them. 1/ On my Mk2 with an original Mexico style split bumper / driving lights/ front spoiler arrangement was great but being a 79 model it was given square headlights which looked rubbish with the original round Carello driving lights so first upgrade not long after getting the car was too switch to round headlights which at the time was a cheap modification and all done within 10 mins 2/ I always hated the plastic Australian mirrors compared to the Euro metal ones. I think they look cheap and nasty although most here seem to like them. But I think it makes the car look so much nicer. 3/ The standard 2lt Pinto that came with the car is fine. With the 3.54 diff it cruises nicely in 4th on the freeways with ease and have done numerous 1000km or more trips over the years not missing a 5th gear. Love the shift in the Type E box just never found a gearbox anywhere near as slik in any car and including the type 9 (which I never understood given they are supposed to be virtually the same box with an extra gear) In 2nd gear the thing pulls like a train but in first however its just revving its nut off going nowhere with its low first gear. First is just plain bad with a torquey 2lt Pinto. I read when people were upgrading to type 9 gearboxes that a mob called BGH Geartech did an uprated first gear for them. I came close to going down that route but I didnt want to cut a new hole and move the stick location which would move the console too. Add to that the better shift of the Type E I instead asked BGH would they make a talller first gear set for a 4 speed. They replied that they used too make them but no one has bothered with the 4 speed for over a decade at that stage but they were prepared to do it for me if I was prepared to wait. Took them 18 months as I think they were moving or something but they came through. Apparently another chap was at their workshop and saw mine being made and he said "Oh while your at it I wouldnt mind one of those". Word spread a bit so I heard that a batch got made. I think there was a decade of the 5 speed must have obsession before the Classic value of OSF had kicked in so in turn the appreciation of the classic 4 speed picked up with it. It wouldnt surprise me if BGH now do the raised first gear for the type E all the time now.

deltamal Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Radiator, bigger capacity - more cores, (happening soon anyway) Fuel injection, replace the standard Granada injection with triple IDF style throttle body's (when the lotto comes up!) Brakes, replace 4 pots with 6 pots (ditto!)

theloudboy Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 WPE has got my car as low as it will go so I can get over speed humps ect but I want it lower, I have met colin who built the saxon Cortina and I told him what my dad said about dropping the body down over the chassis and he said that is easy to do I just got to make mt mind up now if i'm gonna do it.

Lol 1. 2l zetec cams (have got but not in) 2. Port n polish head 3. LSD (but can't afford so probably gonna upgrade to mig-diff 1
