traveller scum hope someone nicks something off thiers

Im around the other side of the world and this is not the first time a traveller problem has been mentioned on the forum. Are these people free to do whatever they like? Are the police powerless or scared to challenge them?

I'm going to need some advice on insurance now - first thing the doris said when I said it had been found again but damaged is 'obviously a write off' and then something about a cash settlement

classic car policy, fully comp should surely mean car gets put back to how it was, insurance pay - end of

That depends entirely on whether you have an agreed value and whether the cost to repair exceeds the value (the latter even if it isn't an agreed value) as the car is yours though the "scrap" should also be yours and I'm going to assume that the damage is not so extreme so as to preclude repair (legally) meaning it can be put back on the road?

Write off categories are below:

Category A
A vehicle which should have been totally crushed, including all its spare parts.

Category B
A vehicle from which spare parts may be salvaged, but the bodyshell should have been crushed and the car should never return to the road.

Category C
An extensively damaged vehicle which the insurer has decided not to repair, but which could be repaired and returned to the road.

Category D
A damaged vehicle which the insurer has decided not to repair, but which could be repaired and returned to the road.

Category F
A vehicle damaged by fire, which the insurer has decided not to repair. Theft These vehicles have not been recovered and ownership rests with the insurer who made the total loss payment. They are able to repossess the car as soon as it is identified, even if it has been bought innocently.

Vehicles categorised as A, B or C require a VIC test before the DVLA will issue a new registration document. This will then be noted on the V5C.

mine must be a d then

sounds like it's mostly interior damage while they looked for the tracker (which would have all been avoided had the police taken the car back when they first went to where it was being held!)

I'm very eager to see it myself (bit scared though)

IF it is just damage to the interior... can the insurance company force you to take money off them? or can you just say that you yourself are willing to repair it to how it was without anything being recorded on a HPI check

Makes you think if the thieves are monitoring forums such as this to get their info, such as knowing it had a tracker fitted. Althought he police may have slipped up and said something similar to them when they went for a look around.

Friend of mine had a very expensive mountain bike stolen from his garage. Thieves knew where it was because they had been looking at his pictures and his ride routes on Every Trail App. It basically led them to his front door.

Hope you get it sorted though Mate, as this is just so wrong on all levels...

I'm going to collect it this afternoon. ignition is smashed and centre console ripped out so who knows how i'll start it - going to get it recovered to my favourite old ford garage though

i wouldn't think so, if the damage is minor, it may be best to repair it yourself and not make any claim to the insurer at all. simply tell them you got the vehicle back undamaged and you won't be persuing a claim.

cheers, ian.

I have a mk1 Ignition barrel assembly complete, the only drawback is I've lost the key for it (OK I know that's a significant drawback) it's yours for free if you can round up multiple keys to see if one fits and get a copy cut of it?

Do you follow OSF on twitter Stuart? We've been giving Kent Police a bit of stick for their lack of action on Friday and eventually got the reply below

@Old_Skool_Ford We put victims first & investigate all crimes thoroughly. If you wish to complain you can do so here: http://www.kent.police.uk/contact_us/have_your_say/complaints_compliments/comp.html

Nothing to lose by making your feelings known eh?

Yes mate, they refuse to contribute to society, but are quite willing to use the National Health Service etc, and they believe that if it aint bolted, welded, screwed & nailed down then its their God given right to appropriate it.
