Admin Vista Posted January 10, 2015 Admin Report Posted January 10, 2015 Admittedly the Stampede is a rare and desirable car (though personally I'd skip the paint job) from the Jeff Uren stable (think Cortina Savage) but, check out this meteoric price rise in just over 6 months: Sold at Auction by Bonhams in June 2014, hammer price just over £16khttp://www.bonhams.com/auctions/21749/lot/217/Now relisted for sale (presumably by the auction buyer) at over £34k! I suspect there was some recommisdioning work needed but jesus!http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C545297
PeteRS8084 Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 Think they will be sitting on this one for a while!
Danish Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 I'm guessing the airbrush work is not part of the Uren customisation, I think they'll struggle to sell it like that as it's very much personal taste.
Tackleberry Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 Well there certainly won't be a stampede for her... Will be an acquired taste me thinks, but hey, it's only a paint job to rectify.
Admin Vista Posted January 10, 2015 Author Admin Report Posted January 10, 2015 I think the paint job is original. Customisation of classic Fords was pretty "far out & groovy" in the 60's and 70's. Though they weren't classics then.
classicwhitey Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 i kinda like it, looks nice sitting low on those polished rims. not 34K nice though
Herr Doktor Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 This is 10K less. Granted it's a Savage and not a Stampede but still rare as it's an estate http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1970-Ford-Cortina-Mk2-Savage-estate-rare-and-stunning-example-For-Sale-/121492065859?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item1c497dce43
JP. Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 Makes me wonder, how many special, limited whatever, V8 Capri conversions where there in the 70's. Even Germany had a company that made them ( Mako ) who did Capri's (mk2& mk3) with a Ford V8 and Granada's with a Porsche V8. Its like the Perana which isn't a Ford product either. It was just a Ford dealer that bought Capri 3.0 V6's from the UK and swapped the Essex engine for a V8 with the Essex engines fitted back into Cortinas creating the Perana Cortinas ( Cortina Big Six). In fact he got in big arguments with Ford so he ended the Ford dealership and went on with Ferrari.
iandq Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 good luck with that sale, i think he'll need it!
Lightweightsteve Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 I really want to love that car. Unfortunately, it makes me feel rather sick!
Danish Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 How can you advertise a car like that without a photo of the engine bay. :-s
l j shaw Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 You never know the seller might view this site lol but if he marks up prices like that ...maybe he's sunning himself on his own island on his own planet lol Having just put one of my own cars up forsale ....I was surprised how many dealers thought they where entitled to a dealer discount ..once I had withdrawn it from sale, only one was honest enough to say he was going to put it back on at proper market value.
2litreScapri Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 This Capri was at the 45th anniversary event at Brooklands in September, and yes, it is a rather awesome beast with good history, but I was disappointed with the owner for putting it up on sale 1 week after the show, and originally at £36k! I'd had email convo with him 7 a chat on the day. seemed a well balanced kinda guy, then went loopy trying to sell. I think he should keep it, Buying the history is fine, just don't mark up....
