aardvark101 Posted June 16, 2015 Report Posted June 16, 2015 Just seen on the news that Top Plop is to return hosted by the extremely irritating Chris Evans. Wonder how long before he gets Danny Baker and all his other mates on board.
SmokeEm Posted June 16, 2015 Report Posted June 16, 2015 I love Chris Evans personally. This to me smacks of the beep playing chess with celebs. Its quite simple really. Like Clarkson? - 50% Like Evans? - 50% Simple math really. They play on what the people want. Quite simple really.
PeteRS8084 Posted June 16, 2015 Report Posted June 16, 2015 Well for my two peneth, I think he will do well. Yes some may not like him because he is successful, some may not like him because he is not Clarkson. But he is a petrol head, he is enthusiastic, and his re vamp of tfi Friday last Friday was brilliant. He does loads for charity, and all in all has got better with age. He will need some decent Co presenters, as may and Hammond are out..........just as long as it's not jodie kidd, she was truly dreadful on that classic car show. How about the singer and mega petrol head Jay kay. ..................or what about that Germany girl from there top gear shabina schmitt? What ever and who ever it needs a re vamp, it was just becoming same old same old.................so onwards and upwards. Good luck the new top gear. P.s. I will still watch the last ever Clarkson one though! 1

Admin Vista Posted June 16, 2015 Admin Report Posted June 16, 2015 Chris Evans? Not for me. Gobby loudmouth whose public history as a petrolhead is limited to purchase of a collection of enormously expensive super cars. Clarkson too had his faults but at least he'd developed in the public eye as a credible motoring journalist and has a long history of making successful motoring programs. TFI Friday and Don't Forget your Toothbrush? Thanks but no thanks! 1
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted June 16, 2015 Moderator Report Posted June 16, 2015 The couple of times he appears as the celebrity driver he came across as rude arrogant and superior even nasty at times. There was none of the Clarkson cheekiness there at all. He is a very specialised car enthusiast but he didnt seem to have a very broad rage of what cars were actually out there or an understanding of the industry. Maybe you guys have heard a lighter side of him on his breakfast program that we havent here. Most of the higher radio show hosts here seem to think they are gods and not to be questioned and dont have a real sense of humour. That was how he struck me on the few times I have seen him appear as well not the self mockery and denigration like we always saw from the boys. 1
khanlad Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 I always thought he was a knob, with some sort of im a god complex, thats just my oplnion obviously! 1
Tackleberry Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 Well, I was 99% certain I wasn't going to watch it with a new team, but he's just added the final 1%...bloke's a cock. Shall just have to wait for Clarkson, Hammond and May to come up with a new motoring programme...question is, would The Stig stay or will he jump ship? 1
mk2 mike Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 I like him. I think it's a good choice. Clarkson couldn't 'act' (nor can Hammond for that matter) and it was painful sometimes watching the scripted jokes. Evans is a more natural presenter, and I reckon the show will be more focused on cars now rather than the tedious, repetitive and predictable 'let's see what Jeremy can break accidentally on purpose this week' show. Personally I hope Hammond moves on too. Im looking forward to it. 2
dalmarshall Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 Chris Evans is ok on TFI etc I like him but top gear is dead.....grieve and move on, they ain't gonna successfully resurrect it
SmokeEm Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 I think it will be completely different from now on. Its what was needed IMHO. Just the way its been done is all wrong. 2
PeteRS8084 Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 And just one final thought...................If you or I belted someone, for no good reason apart from " but I want hot food" we would have been in the back of a police car, and down the cells without a cuppa or a hot breakfast quick smart. And I am sure any magistrate would have shown no mercy! Just a thought
Admin Vista Posted June 17, 2015 Admin Report Posted June 17, 2015 Agreed.........but I'd still rather have a bonafide established motoring journalist at the helm than a mediocre DJ with a car collection and a couple of general entertainment TV shows on his CV.
colr6 Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 Not a great fan of top gear anyway for what I have seen of them making a fuss over cars that 99% of us can't afford throwing them around a circuit sideways which I dare say most of could do with that amount of power. They always do it on a very wide circuit so there is plenty of space for error! They only show the laps they managed to complete without losing it completely andwhen they do show you its to spruce it up a bit. Don't think they have any driving credibility between them like ex rally/formula 1/2 or 3 driver unles you can count Hammond trying to commit suicide at Elvington trying to achieve somthing can't remember what. To me a motoring programme should be about cars we the general public buy, give them a good thrashing to highlight there problems/downfalls depreciation and so on. Call me boring old sod but I like throwing a car sideways like the next car fanatic but do it in something most of us could at least one day afford! That's my rant over have a nice day. 3
accord83 Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 I'm looking forward to it, it might be crap, but worth giving a fair hearing because it might be great. The last format had got jaded and reached a "how silly can we get and still be credible?" type of programme, and they lost that battle to the end. Mmmmm, Clarkson a bona fide motoring journalist? (no chin scratching smiley to use). He might have been at one time but he turned into a swivel eyed cliché in later years. Bring on fresh ideas mixed with some of the old, shake it up a bit, make it relevant, and let's see what happens. 1
colr6 Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 Just read up might give Chris Evans 1% of been able to talk about cars he does own a mk1 mex at least he gets something's right! Still think he very arrogant and clever and so far up his own rear end he needs a light on his head. 1
HotRodMatt Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 Must say Top Gear for me has really been about the adventures and challenges and the interaction between Hammond, May and Clarkson. Yes the scripting was obvious and no they shouldn't be trying to act, but it was entertaining (to me). I've no interest in whatever new cars they had on screen and the exotica like new Koenigseggs and Ferraris and Lambos appeal to me about as much as the new Vectra. They've done a few episodes without the fun element and they've been boring. I've even switched one off before now despite the fact that the wife isn't allowed to make a sound or try to converse with me when it's on. As for Evans replacing Clarkson? He may have a collection of posh motors and get all excited when they do that charity car run thing on the radio in Alfas and stuff but I don't think he'll bring much to the show. And without the other two it'll fail anyway. 1
aardvark101 Posted June 17, 2015 Author Report Posted June 17, 2015 I agree that TG in its present format died a death a long while ago, but still represented a money spinner for the BBC,like an automotive Walking Dead. I think they need to appeal to a wider (enthusiast) audience once you have seen one "Super Car" doing a bazzillion miles an hour on an airport runway etc, etc. Not that i want an hours write up on the new Binga Bonga, Twix from ..insert name of far east manuf here. What about covering all the niche motor sports, how about the meets we have or other grass roots car nutters, what about actual car restoration, not that bloody Wheeler Dealer boll*x. I thought the program on the Jaguar Lightweights was well put together, why not mix it up with some modern stuff an away you go. Just my 2p 2
PeteRS8084 Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 Noooooooooooooooo..............They want a female on the show, and not the dollies all in the front row of the audience! And my worst fears may have come to haunt me, my Mrs says they have been talking to......................Bloody Jodie Kidd. Jodie Kidd, they must be kidding! Pun intended. They could do so much better than her, Suzie Perry? Looks like I will record it and very fast forward through any part Jodie Kidd is in! Right rant over! Or is it? 2
luckyjim Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 I like Chris Evans and actually met him in a petrol garage once he was all over the old ford popular I was driving and was a really nice bloke. he doesn't just like posh motors its just that he is fortunate enough to be able to afford any cars he likes (I think he still owns a morris minor) .the less said about Jodie kidd the better. If they wanted a doris who looks good(very good to a man my age),knows cars and knows how to pedal a car fast they should talk to Penny Mallory.... 1
khanlad Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 Jodie kidd on that classic car thing, she talks really slow like shes talking to an idiot, couldnt watch it because it makes me angry, and im the most mellow person ever! 2
SmokeEm Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 Jodie Kidd is awful. Pull out ALL the stops and get Vicky Butler Henderson
Admin Vista Posted June 18, 2015 Admin Report Posted June 18, 2015 Jodie Kidd is awful. Pull out ALL the stops and get Vicky Butler Henderson Oh god no, that awful squealing all the time? Just the thought has me mentally switching off 5th Gear. I quite liked Jodie Kidd in that Classic Car show, interested in what other people found so objectionable though? 1
SmokeEm Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 I hear you but I still think VBH is gorgeous! Jodie was/is just wooden. Should stick to silently dragging her sticks up n down the catwalk!
aardvark101 Posted June 18, 2015 Author Report Posted June 18, 2015 F*ck those two, get Sabine Schmit on board, she knows more about motors than Clarkson & Evans put together
