adamcrake Posted July 4, 2015 Report Posted July 4, 2015 Hello all I am wanting to get a cosworth block to put in a mk2 escort, I want to build an engine from scratch for it and have everything new what would the best block to get for it and what would fit best? Thanks in advance oldskoolers

jamie956 Posted July 5, 2015 Report Posted July 5, 2015 Depends on your budget if building a hi spec engine a smith and jones or Millington alloy block would be considered as the best, but for your every day n/a YB then a 205 is the most common to use.

Built with a hybrid turbo mapped for good performance from low down in the Rev range with a healthy BHP figure and not peak enormous BHP that would prove unusable in every day driving. 2

colr6 Posted July 5, 2015 Report Posted July 5, 2015 If it's an open budget then would suggest a professional Builder to do it, investing that kind of money don't want to make any stupid mistakes and reck an engine. If I was in this position that's what I would do

But yes it really is a no budget I am not rushing this project I want to do everything myself and I want it to be perfect it is my first project car and to say I have done it all myself will be a real achievement. Snapper Posted July 5, 2015 Report Posted July 5, 2015 Surely if the intent is to build a Cosworth (turbo or NA) and the budget is no object then start with a Cosworth because you'll have a lot of bits you will need, crank, rods, block & flywheel. I'd seriously start trolling Turbosports forum for some definitive tech answers. As you get clarity of the end target (bhp, torque, revs) you will then understand what you need to do to achieve that

adamcrake Posted July 6, 2015 Author Report Posted July 6, 2015 Thanks all for the helpful advice and information you have shared iv been looking at both blocks and full engines it's not much more for a full cosworth engine on eBay but I want everything to be new do you all think I am better off buyin an engine and stripping it down and replacing stuff or better with a brand new block?

puddy Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 205 block will be fine up to 400 bhp , turbo'd. 200 block weighs a ton and is overkill unless you want more than 400 bhp. If atmo , 205 block is fine for a sensible road engine , but if you want a 10,000 rpm screamer they can crack bores , so an alloy block would be better . puddy 1

piekey Posted July 11, 2015 Report Posted July 11, 2015 Talk to Phil at Connaught competition engines. They would do you a bomb proof holbay/warrior on a 205 block. 2.3 or 2.4 spec on nice torquey cams for good road / trackday use, up on the 300 mark. That will always grab your attention whilst putting the biggest grin on your face. very sensible money for reliable horsepower.
