Admin Vista Posted August 23, 2015 Admin Report Posted August 23, 2015 An arched Allegro! Allegedly getting a V8 too!
PeteRS8084 Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 OMG Austin all agro, has it still got its square steering wheel! V8 or not a true disaster!
Danish Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 I think the arches improve it a bit. I'm not sure why you'd do it though?
colr6 Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 Hope they've done some mods on the hydrolastic suspension!
colr6 Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 The best thing that came out of allegros was a box with hotpoint written on it!!!
luckyjim Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 Lets not forget that at one point(not hotpoint lol) the Allaggro was the sixth best selling car in Britain despite various design and development problems!
irishtorag Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 I have to agree with above I like it a lot. definitely different and would turn a few heads. Now coilovers linked and rear drive with a cossie lump would be the way to go
Admin Vista Posted August 24, 2015 Author Admin Report Posted August 24, 2015 Found some more images of it online, looks like it's just an allegro body grafted onto a Corvette chassis. Madder than a box of frogs! 1
SmokeEm Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 Also, rumours back in the day were that the All Aggro, has a lower drag coefficient going backwards than forwards!
accord83 Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 I like it, I'd love to see the faces of the purists when you rocked up to the "Pride (did they have any?) of Longbridge Show" in it.
Craig89 Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 Very strange choice of shell to do that sort of conversion, but i have to agree, i like it!
deltamal Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 It's not an Allegro now though, well just it's shell, I had a Morris 1100 it was the worst car I ever owned! bad mechanically and rotten body work it was 6 years old when I bought it, the newest car I had ever owned, the Allegro was the up-dated version but no better!
DT36 Posted August 25, 2015 Report Posted August 25, 2015 My Mother loves the old Allegros. I blew the engine on her Granada when I was 18, gunning it back from Swansea. I bought an Allegro off a mate (non runner) for £50 while I pulled the engine out of her granny to get the crank reground. Aggro had it's points closed, so I reset them and it was good to go. Fixed her Granny for her and she sold the Aggro for £250 to someone she worked with...
khanlad Posted August 26, 2015 Report Posted August 26, 2015 Prefer the all action Austin agro to the corvette! Was there more of them in the background in one of the pictures?
Herr Doktor Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 I feel dirty when I say this but I really really like it. 1
skeeter Posted August 29, 2015 Report Posted August 29, 2015 I know it is wrong, but I quite like that. It is great to see that people still do mad stuff like this, the world is a better place for it. Ken
Admin Vista Posted September 1, 2015 Author Admin Report Posted September 1, 2015 It is great to see that people still do mad stuff like this, the world is a better place for it. Ken I'm not sure how much longer it's going to be possible for, rules, regs etc being tightened up all the time 1
Danish Posted September 1, 2015 Report Posted September 1, 2015 I'm not sure how much longer it's going to be possible for, rules, regs etc being tightened up all the time Does a Corvette have a chassis? Then it might be possible as Top Gear did a conversion on a TVR - because it had a chassis (not monocoque) they had a lot more freedom with the body.
