dacar Posted March 20, 2016 Report Posted March 20, 2016 Does anybody know If Specialised Engines in Essex is still trading?
Hotspur Posted March 20, 2016 Report Posted March 20, 2016 They were 6 months ago. I know someone who had some work done on a crossflow.
colr6 Posted March 20, 2016 Report Posted March 20, 2016 If you are thinking of using them, give them a Google and have a read!
dalmarshall Posted March 20, 2016 Report Posted March 20, 2016 They are close to me...yet I know of NOBODY who's used them!!
dacar Posted March 21, 2016 Author Report Posted March 21, 2016 Ok who is recommended then? I've look at a few but would love to hear your experiences with engine rebuilds!
caprimk1v4 Posted March 21, 2016 Report Posted March 21, 2016 I used "SPECIALISED ENGINES" once, and NEVER again. Bought a Crossflow head off them ST2, the outer valve guide boss on No3 inlet was snapped off flush with the head, and just a "K Line" guide insert was sticking up through the head, nothing for the seal to sit on, so they did not bother to fit a seal. Got in touch with them as was told " NOTHING WRONG WITH THE HEAD WHEN WE SENT IT OUT" and he just put the phone down on me while I was talking. No never again, they are bad, but I have had items including a 1700 crossflow bottom end from "VULCAN" and that was excellent.
Admin Vista Posted March 21, 2016 Admin Report Posted March 21, 2016 Ok who is recommended then? I've look at a few but would love to hear your experiences with engine rebuilds! There are four engine builders with good established reputations on this forum. HPE, The Ashtons, Vulcan and WPE. All have positive feedback from satisfied members on this forum, try talking to each of them by clicking through to their respective websites from their banners on the forum index page.
Danish Posted March 21, 2016 Report Posted March 21, 2016 he just put the phone down on me while I was talking. I often wonder whether traders like this realise everyone's connected these days and a really bad or a really good experience is passed around the "scene" very quickly?
Admin Vista Posted March 21, 2016 Admin Report Posted March 21, 2016 I often wonder whether traders like this realise everyone's connected these days and a really bad or a really good experience is passed around the "scene" very quickly? It's a good point but given how connected we are, you'd think that traders like that would go out of business very quickly......but frequently that doesn't seem to happen.
dalmarshall Posted March 21, 2016 Report Posted March 21, 2016 My engine was built by WPE and that is my recommendation obviously..........it's the frigging nuts my x flow!!! 1
nosher 64 Posted March 21, 2016 Report Posted March 21, 2016 I had my Crossflow built at connought performance engines at Sittingbourne.. Couldn't be happier with it..
l j shaw Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 I was very happy with the Vulcan built crossflow I had ...and would use them again, I found the engine reliable and usable in slow traffic as well
2512pf Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 I think word of mouth is the best when wanting an expensive job like this doing The good thing about this forum is you get to hear both sides of the story so you can make up your own mind
dacar Posted March 22, 2016 Author Report Posted March 22, 2016 Thanks folks and I'll visit the websites suggested above. It's great to be connected and invaluable. As they say you can't buy experience.
eddiescars Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 Well.. I had a garage less than a mile from Specialised and knew them reasonably well I can assure you that their reputation was good. AND IMPORTANT TO THEM Anyone with aledged bad experience could quite possibly be from the .... Scince you changed my headlamp my rear tyre keeps going flat brigade We all get them in any trade .. lol
accord83 Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 You mean my headlights are not part of my tyre deflation early warning system? Woah!!!! I best be getting a pressure gauge on those tyres damn quick, I've not changed a bulb in 7yrs.

DT36 Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 I read a decent (old) article on Jem Engineering recently. Anyone used their in-house machining and build service?
