Thought the Aussie RSs didn't have a lot of the same fittings as the European equiv with the likes of exh/ g/ box / wheels /seats and fuel tank

Yep just to confuse you further we also put 2lt Pintos in GLs Ghias and Vans LOL Now everybody does it! See how ahead of the times we were?

Thats true they excluded a number of things from the Euro RS2000s like radius arms, alloy bell housing, RS exhaust manifold, alloy engine mounts but axles gearboxes and their ratios are all the same. Most of the differences are bolt on so you can easily upgrade to the Euro spec parts if you wanted. Australian RS2000/Rally Packs have larger fuel tank under the boot floor with a filler behind the rear number plate. This not only gives you a longer range but the boot space then becomes larger without the side tank and also the boot floors never rust out because the tank shields it from splash, also lowering the centre of gravity and centralising that weight. Clear indication that panels were made in Europe though as the side fuel hole is still there and just filled with a bolt on blanking plate (with an Escort sticker on it)! Much larger side intrusion beams in the doors for greater side impact safety. A different gearbox extension housing so that the gearstick is in a better position further forward even though the use the same Type E gearbox. All RS2000s had Scheel seats while Rally Packs had crappy GL seats although mine never had them as the original owner got the dealer to fit Stratos Sports Seats before it even left the shop driveway. The alloy wheels of RS2000 and Rally Packs were really horrible things. Only the die hard Concours guys ever fit them on the day. My set has sat in the shed for decades they are that awful. And the big difference of course as mentioned before you could get them in two or four doors. All the fundamentals are similar really. All Australian Mk2 Escorts had full door trims so an RS2000 had the same interior door trim as a GL.  Only Ghias got the trims with carpet at the bottom. Australian cars got crappy plastic mirrors, the European metal ones are heaps better. Ford Australia basically cut out a few of the things they didnt really think were that necessary and added a few others that they felt were important. The fuel tank arrangement in Australian cars is brilliant and it doesnt matter what side the petrol pump is on but cutting out the radius arms on a 2lt leaf sprung Escort was a huge mistake. They tramp all over the place but I had that corrected over two decades ago and the arms are still working like a charm.

don't think he'd buy it back. probably double the price it was sold for. does look mint though.
