4 door escort prices?????

After selling my 2 door mk2 and mk1 I'm now trying to get back into the ford scene. I'm looking for a 4 door mk2 escort but the vast difference in prices is confusing me. Nice cars sell for 4k and others unsold with high reserves / buy it now. I would say 4k is the market price for a good standard 4 door . What do you guys think?????

I see the same with a lot of classic cars, there generally seems no reason why car 1 is £x and car 2 is £y when they look pretty similar to me. My approach is too decide what I want to pay and then find the best car for that money and ignore the others.

I would save my pennies Paul and get a 2dr

Even if you had to borrow the difference between the two prices ,the 2 door cars would out way the interest charges with there appreciating prices

So that's what I think for what it's worth ,oh yes I also have a mint 2 dr for sale !!

While true there currently exists a huge gap between two and for door prices (I even started a thread about this very topic) I believe this difference will begin to close in the next few years. I think now may well be a good time to get a great value 4 door before the prices leap towards their 2 door counterparts.

It is very nice but way overpriced in my opinion ( whatever that's worth) . It's been for sale for some time so the market isn't that strong yet for 4 doors.

4 doors will never command the same as 2 doors. Their prices are not catching up to 2 doors as 2 doors are always going up, which means 4 doors are also going up but not catching.

 

I must openly disagree. Two doors have reached a threshold level thats become so outrageous that people are now starting to turn to four doors as a realistic alternative and that demand is is starting to impact the prices of four doors which are increasing greater as a percentage for the same model. I will concede the two door equivalent of a particular model will always fetch a 20% premium or so but not the two to three times the price we are seeing at the moment. I think the key is also model equivalence. You cant really compare the price of a sporting model to that of a small engined 4 door GL. I have referred to having the advantage of seeing an alternate perspective here in Australia that is having four door sports models. At the moment the price of RS2000s and Rally Packs both two and four door are level pegging on price. Condition and mods are what pull the higher prices and the amount of doors seems not to have any great influence. Its also a mindset that I think buyers in the UK are just starting to get around. In Australia there has been a heritage of 4 door sports models in touring car racing so a 4 door RS2000 is really nothing people perceive as being deficient in any way. There is the looks thing still in play which im sure twice as many people would prefer a two door to four door even here. But surprise surprise, original sales numbers reflect that with approx two 2 door cars being sold for every four door. Making four doors representing only a third of RS2000s available even today. So it balances out in the end bringing them to similar levels in price. While 2 door pricing will always remain strong, I still predict that 4 door pricing will close the gap significantly over the next decade. In Australia its effectively already there.

Maybe in Australia but it'll never happen here. 4 doors have been and still will be the cheaper alternative (though not cheap in the grand scale of things). And you've just contradicted yourself by saying 2 doors will command a 20% premium over 4 doors so how can they catch up? For the past 4,5,6 years 4 doors were the cheaper way into escort ownership but prices have risen, granted, but not to 2 door levels. Plus we never had a 4 door RS over here so thats maybe the only exception as its an oddball, but still wont command the same price as its 2 door partner.

Many classic Fords are rising in price though - e.g. lately the Capri seems to be rising quickly in value, and I wonder whether that is in part due to 2-door Escorts becoming more expensive?
