What would be the biggest disc size that I can fit inside Mexico slotted steelies with the chrome centre cap on them 5.5jjX13" steel wheel?

I have a set of princess vented 4 pot front calipers for the car but the disc size the princess uses is 257mm? Will this size disc fit inside these wheels with no clearence issues?

Any information much appreciated.

The issue would be if the calipers fit inside the wheel, they would be the widest bit after bolting on the strut, i have 260 mm disc with wilwood calipers that should fit inside 13's . With 6×13 lazer wheels they catch very slightly on the front, with a slim spacer they miss

Yes the tolerance between 13in wheels and Princess Calipers is a fine one, especially if they are spaced for vented discs.  You even need stumpy bleed nipples at one of the two outlets so it doesnt touch the rim or internal balance weights. I have seen certain 6in alloys even that due to the thickness of the spoke to rim area and offset can cause some interference problems. So I would be very interested and surprised if you could make 5.5in steels work with them. Certainly the 257 discs will fit as the caliper is in the same position whether you have pad overhang using 244mm discs or utilise the full pad by using 257s.

It's close (as you said) and I think I may have had to trim one of the bleed nipples (also as you said) but they've been on there 10+ years now without issue.

Oh and mine does run vented discs.

Standard princess pads I think, it was so long ago I fitted them that I don't remember.

You cant beat 70's blocks of iron for "fit and forget". I doubt you will able to say the same with some of the new alloy stuff in the future.

:smiledoor: I remember they are Princess pads, I just don't remember which make. And hey, me and my undetermined Princess pads have done many fun road miles together......how are you getting on with your car in a bottle (bubble)?

Don't worry Vista you can park your 'kit' car next to mine, I won't be offended.

Thanks for the replys guys, I thought the discs would be ok its the wheels that got my thinking if they would fit, may have to do a mock up to see how it all fits. Do the alloy front hubs make the wheels stick out a further 10mm from standard front hubs? If so that may give the wheel enough clearence around the calipers?

I use Princess calipers behind my 5.5" mk1 RS alloys without any issues.

What master cylinder are you using withe the Princess calipers Scott. I have just aquired some 3 litre Capri legs and discs and somewhere in the spares pile I have/had a set of Princess calipers, ( I think).
