Rich T Posted July 4, 2017 Report Posted July 4, 2017 Afternoon all. Thought id join up as im on the lookout for a Mk1 Escort. In my early 40s now. Had a few mk1s and 2s in my teenage years (they were about £300 then, what happened!?!?). Spent my 30s involved with classic VWs but one thing lead to another and i had to sell up in 2014. Anyway the fire is burning inside for another Escort so here i am . Going to have a look at a couple of 2 doors on saturday. Cant wait, feels like Christmas is coming lol. Cheers Rich
OSF Contributor Mexican Gerbil Posted July 4, 2017 OSF Contributor Report Posted July 4, 2017 Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Rich T Posted July 4, 2017 Author Report Posted July 4, 2017 Yes this purchase will cost you alot and Im not talking about the price of the car! Welcome. Yeh, im bracing myself for that already.
Rich T Posted July 4, 2017 Author Report Posted July 4, 2017 Yeah but its such fun, the doing bit, and when its done, it is just like wiping 20 years off you, I must admit I'm looking forward to the build. Its been a long time coming. Cheers
Jerrytom161 Posted July 4, 2017 Report Posted July 4, 2017 Hi RichT , welcome to osf . Are you going for an original factory standard escort or modded car ?
Rich T Posted July 4, 2017 Author Report Posted July 4, 2017 Idealy a bit of both. Close to 100hp ( tuned crossflow?) would be nice with brakes and suspension to suit. A decent paint job in an original colour and a nice set of wheels. Nothing that cant be changed back to stock. Interior wise, id like to keep it pretty standard.

Welcome to osf, if that was my remit for a car I would be looking at purchasing a 1300E mk1. Nice std interior, look nice from the outside in std form and install a 1600 pushrod for a bit more power so keeping near enough original looks under the hood.
Rich T Posted July 5, 2017 Author Report Posted July 5, 2017 Yeh, has a few 1300Es and they are a nice car. Im proper torn between the 2. As i sead, im going to take a look saturday and see how i feel on the day i think. Cheers for your relplies all.
Admin Vista Posted July 5, 2017 Admin Report Posted July 5, 2017 There are a couple of 1300e options around right now. What's your budget? http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/MK1-FORD-ESCORT-1300E-2-DOOR-ZETEC-THROTTLE-BODY-INJECTION-STUNNING-CAR-/192236859883?nav=SEARCH http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-ESCORT-MK1-2-DOOR-1300E-TIMEWARP-BARN-GARAGE-FIND-RESTORATION-PROJECT-/192232194470?nav=SEARCH
Rich T Posted July 5, 2017 Author Report Posted July 5, 2017 Not that much unfortunately. Ill be starting at the bottom end with a budget of 8k max
khanlad Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 Would think youd get a half decent south african import for that? Sqwint alot past tbe loverly interiors, 20' spinner wheels and shocking paint job, good base to start you off
colr6 Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 Would say he was chancing his arm at 14k for a ' barn' find.....lovely term that ...widely used for an old piece of shit we've found buried at the back ! You can add another '0' for a barn find ya know, must be the patina of bird crap that inflates the value ! 1
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted July 5, 2017 Moderator Report Posted July 5, 2017 Hahaha. Thats EXACTLY what I think whenever I hear the term "Barn Find" except with an added tree growing through it.

You can add another '0' for a barn find ya know, must be the patina of bird crap that inflates the value ! Agree, stupid price. No harm in making an offer though.
colr6 Posted July 6, 2017 Report Posted July 6, 2017 Agree, stupid price. No harm in making an offer though. £75...if they want to stupid so can I.
Ash5896 Posted July 17, 2017 Report Posted July 17, 2017 What sort of price would be for a good 1300E in useable condition? The “barn find” one seems original but I think his asking way too much.
colr6 Posted July 17, 2017 Report Posted July 17, 2017 What sort of price would be for a good 1300E in useable condition? The “barn find” one seems original but I think his asking way too much. HALF that I would think a reasonable figure! 1
OSF Contributor Mexican Gerbil Posted July 17, 2017 OSF Contributor Report Posted July 17, 2017 Agree. People with more money than sense have ruined the market. Bought my first one 6 years ago for £4500 on the road ready to go. Lucky to get a shell for that now.
Ash5896 Posted July 17, 2017 Report Posted July 17, 2017 HALF that I would think a reasonable figure! Me too but don’t think he’d accept that
