Fozzy48 Posted June 2, 2019 Report Posted June 2, 2019 Just testing the water here for if there would be any interest in buying my 1976 RS2000 flat front, 2.1 pinto, twin 45s, big valve head. MOT and tax exempt. It's a very nice motor and my intentions were to strip the engine down to re-cut the valves, put a different cam in and put a full new gasket set in, supplied. It needs a new ring gear at about £60 as there's teeth missing. I put a 52" capri axle on last year with disc conversion. I also put a new water pump on, fan and radiator, also new halogen headlights. Overall, the car is very nice and it gets commented on as mint, but it's not. TBH, once the valves have been re-cut and cam changed and tuned, it's a fast usable motor. But if you want to show it, then it'll need painting in places. ATM, I cannot envisage me having the time or interest in owning it any longer due to time and work. But if it doesn't sell, it can stay in the garage and keep appreciating in value. Withdrawn from sale. I'm keeping it thanks to this lot below. 😄 2

Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted June 3, 2019 Moderator Report Posted June 3, 2019 Fozzy, you still participate on the forum every now and then so clearly you have an interest. There are times other things take priorities and that's natural, and like many things you cant give them the same attention, it comes in peaks and troughs. Do the garage thing. If you get out now the buy in at a later stage will be too great and it wont be as good as you have. Its clear you liked that car and with good reason. Unless your desperate for the cash, pop a nice cover over it in the garage and do what you have to till you have the time to focus on it again. The sell regret threads here far outweigh the not sure if its worth keeping ones. 2
Cuili1 Posted June 3, 2019 Report Posted June 3, 2019 Really nice car mate. I agree with @Rally Pack 2000 1

Over the years I have come to the mind that if I don't use something, it gets sold and I don't regret it. I don't need the money, but may, and I stress may need more cash for a building project, so it's a bit of both, lost interest, although when I go into the garage and take the cover off, it makes me smile, and, maybe needing the cash for a project if I get the chance to buy it. Ofcourse, if it doesn't sell, then I'm quite happy to keep it and do something with it when I retire in a couple of years time. Thanks again bud. 👍

colr6 Posted June 3, 2019 Report Posted June 3, 2019 Think you’ll regret selling it, but if needs must then that’s it. You’ll be lucky to find another good one like that without re- mortgaging what you’ve just spent the cash on ! If you can keep it an use at a later date and enjoy. 1
PeteRS8084 Posted June 3, 2019 Report Posted June 3, 2019 She's lovely, but I speak from experience. ...........Once she is gone you will be priced out from getting another one so nice. ........think about it........good luck whatever you decide. 1
notenoughtime Posted June 3, 2019 Report Posted June 3, 2019 I have to agree with the majority don’t part with it if you can help it! 1
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted June 3, 2019 Moderator Report Posted June 3, 2019 For the record its the most stunning white Mk2 on these pages and if you look at my avatar that's said with pure jealousy. 1
Munch Posted June 3, 2019 Report Posted June 3, 2019 I think you have to think of the enjoyment you get from driving it and taking it to shows, and if that's gone then maybe the time is right to sell, but surely if it brings a smile to your face when you see it sitting in the garage then it must be worth keeping for that on its own. Good luck with whatever you decide, and I hope it's the right one.👍 1
DT36 Posted June 3, 2019 Report Posted June 3, 2019 I don't go near my car sometimes for weeks, but then have a grin when I take it out. Took it out on Saturday and first stop was The supermarket to get some money. Ended up chatting with a bloke who came over saying he had the exact same model and colour in the 80s. Second stop was at Neils garage (Preacherman) to re-check my wheel nuts, as my old man interrupted me when I was checking their torques. Had a nagging doubt on one of my wheels not being checked. Had a quick chat about our cars, but had my Betty with me, so couldn't stop too long. Sorry... Next stop was on the hills above Llangynidr and had a chat with Mr Whippy who was telling me about the time he totalled his mates Escort doing handbrake turns. Didn't give me a free ice cream though. Last stop was at a pub beer garden and got chatting to a lad on a Triumph Bonneville. He was looking around my car while I was looking at his bike. Although I've been offered decent money for my car and sometimes it proper makes my p1ss fizz, I don't get chatting with random old petrol heads when I'm out in my daily. 3
preacherman Posted June 3, 2019 Report Posted June 3, 2019 I have had mine on eBay twice and both times took it off sale. About 2 weeks ago I wrote a new advert. I don't have much time and when I do find time, I am rushing jobs. Sometimes I don't see the car for weeks and makes me mad when it won't start. I won't sell it now and will keep it. Even though mine is a fooking shed on wheels it always gets attention and someone's dad has always got a free leeter capri in the garage. 2
Monza Posted June 4, 2019 Report Posted June 4, 2019 I'm with the majority on this....but not been in this situation before. Like to think I would keep the mk1at whatever cost but as above "if needs must" then so be it.Big decision tho and not to be taken lightly. Almost impossible to get another as good without a second mortgage!!Good luck.....whatever you decide to do m8Awesome mk2 btw [emoji108]Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk 2
Fozzy48 Posted June 4, 2019 Author Report Posted June 4, 2019 Bloodyhell lads, you certainly know how to make me think. And I do appreciate what you're all saying. Well I've just re-insured it today and for what it costs and costs to keep in the garage I've decided for the time being to keep it. Cheers 😀 4 1
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted June 5, 2019 Moderator Report Posted June 5, 2019 A sound decision not to rush into it. Its always there though if you get desperate for the cash. The trick to OSF ownership is to own more than one. Then if you get pressured to sell by the other half or having moral dilemmas about keeping them idle you sell one off and still have one foot in the game. (Just keep your favourite 😀). I have so many memories invested in my Mk2 that I wont sell it even when im too old and infirmed and have no licence. I will just look at it like a photo album. PS - Is my memory playing tricks on me but did you car have RS1800 blue type stripes on it before?
Monza Posted June 5, 2019 Report Posted June 5, 2019 Nice 1!! Great what a little pressure can do!! Can't see you regretting it m8... On the road....enjoy the Summer...when it stop's raining!!! [emoji122][emoji122][emoji109]Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk 1

Although once I get the time I may change something, we'll see. But then that's a whole different discussion on here. 😂😂😂
