Enthusiasm needed......

I have a few jobs to do on the RS over the next few months but I'm really struggling to get the enthusiasm and get out and do them. I need to remove the ugly brace from my atlas axle and fit my group 1 air box to my IDF's but there's always something else to do at home or on my daily car. Anyone else struggling?

Happens to the best of us mate

I totally lost all interest in the Mex a couple of years back, moving house, changing job, young kids, lack of funds, buggered gearbox, no time, always busy doing other crap.

It just was left in the garage unloved. But..... managed to pull my finger out to get the gearbox fixed and then BOOM! the buzz was back, and now cant wait to get out in the thing at any opportunity.

Sometimes a break can be good, but you just need one small moment of positivity, or a win to see the light again.

Time is always my worst enemy so I can 100% relate to that.

Plus getting out to local shows and meets gives you the desire to be in your pride and joy, plus a bit or warm weather and sun helps

Wheel's definitely off that wagon LOL! Regarding enthusiasm, I can sympathise as I just need to renew a throttle position sensor to get my car running again so it can be mapped and finished but in a cold. damp garage and having to work outside I just can't be arsed! LOL!

The axle brace - why? It'll be a fair amount of work to achieve what exactly as it'll never look standard? But the airbox shouldn't be more than an hour or so . . . . . . . brew and biccies and attack, you know you want to!

Kind of agree with Katana, why bother removing the axle brace?

Got my own problems with use of mine at the moment too. A housing developer dug up the access road to our house and are starting to build a new estate.....the road they've put in for us runs through the middle of their construction  site and is perpetually thick with mud. Not been able to get my motorbike or any of my old cars out since September and this could go on a long time

It probably won't do much good but you should send a complaint to the Planning dept as the access requirement should have been allowed for within their Planning Approval - this is clearly in breach. Is the road an adopted one ie. maintained by local highways authority? If so a complaint to them also regarding the condition and state of the highway should set a fire under their butts as highway safety is always a good topic to start a discussion with!

No, not adopted. It's a private right of way over land the developers have bought. Concerns were raised by us and our 5 neighbours at the planning stage, all completely ignored by the planning dept. Big fat brown envelope changed hands maybe?

I always find when it's too much of a chore to go and do what needs to be done, putting a car program on TV helps me. Anything from someone doing up cars, racing cars, just driving an titting about, either makes me think "yes let's go do that"

or I think

"how the hell can they do that like that, I'd do it this way, makes more sense" etc

 then before I know it I'm outside with a mug in hand writing a list of what is easy 2 minute jobs and what is a long job, an start tackling them and I'm back driving an seeing people smiling at the car as I drive past, love that feeling

Not many 2 minute jobs, or they start as 2 and end up being an hour 😄

But yes, the buzz of the thumbs up and waves when out in an OSF does bring a warm fuzzy feeling, and not that's not a bowl condition 🤣

I do lose my rag. 

Access roaded completely blocked the other day, it left me blocking the roundabout and the main road to North Cornwall. Me?

Out the car gesticulating wildly, ranting, swearing and generally raging

the amount of times my wife would appear.... Thought you were only going to be 2 minutes you've been an hour an a half..... 

 

Luckily now I'm single I don't have to worry about that and I can still list "2 minute" jobs an fool myself happily

I'd be the same now, unfortunately I don't tend to bite my tongue as I've got older, people now hear exactly what I think, it's doesn't always work in my favour either 😂

You can find yourself with just problem after problem with nothing going right that it starts messing with your head if its all worth while or you think your cursed or something. When you get clouded like that it really is best to put a cover over it and walk away for a few months. The itch to start again will come back and you will know the time is right when this idea or that comes into your head and think to yourself that would work or look good, that's the sign the interest has returned. Finding a great parts bargain is often a nice trigger that its time to get started again. I often use that time to search for the parts I need and ignore the car itself. Forcing yourself when you have the total sh**s with it wont be productive in fact it generally induces more mishaps and greater frustration.

Most important thing is NEVER sell up when your in that frame of mind hide it in a corner instead and take solace in the fact that when you go back to it in a few months it will be worth double then it was when you covered it over!
