Ukraine, seriously, WTF???

Easy to forget how slowly the world's powerful democracies mobilized in 1939. France & Britain declared war on Germany 2 days after they invaded Poland, but it would take another 8 months before military engagement. Sending in our own troops may further inflame matters but neither can ae stand by and allow this to happen on our doorstep whilst hiding behind semantics of whether the Ukraine is a NATO member or not. Kuwait and Yugoslavia weren't NATO members and neither was Sierra Leone, we went into all three of those to defend the populous.

Much like Argentina thought the UK was weak in 82, Putin thought the same of Europe given that he watched us do nothing about Crimea since 2014. He has spent 20+ years spending his money on ships, tanks and planes whilst we rejoiced at the end of the Cold War, sucking up Russian fossil fuels, cut our militaries to the bone and spaffed money up the wall on the likes of state funded boob jobs, gender neutral toilets and safe spaces for 19 year old men who need to connect to their inner woman.

NATO members or not, Putin's actions against Ukraine must not stand and we need to do more than impose sanctions, those haven't had any effect in discouraging him to date, why would he suddenly pay attention now?

You've really got your 'Eddie' Face on, haven't you!

The British population don't have the stomach for this or any other war where their sons and fathers, daughters & mothers could be killed - not any more. Governments are on pretty thin ice, flexing National muscle in cases like this. Its not some sandy wasteland with an enemy who can be pummelled into submission with use of hi-tech weaponry - this one has the same sh1t and lots more of it! Russia has never shy'd away from sacrificing huge numbers of its troops and population in war - I would expect this one to be no different if it really did kick off.

And then there is the nuclear element - they still have shed loads and they also support that nutter in N Korea - he'd launch against the US just to see what happens! Putin is the classic xenophobic, megalomaniac, dictator - unfortunately the Russian people can't or won't see it. Also China is staying very quiet on the matter which is quite worrying - condemnation is only worthwhile if it is total, universal and in this case - global!

I can't believe we (the royal we) have stood by and let this happen.

An old schoolfriend of mine who made his home in Kiev 30 years ago. He escaped to Poland last night.

You are both right, not that we want to be dragged into another large war, but if we (and others) don't take a stand to oppose this where will it end?

Government regardless of which party/colour lack the minerals to engage fully at the moment, and at the moment it is far enough away for these poxy snowflakes to say DON'T go to war, be different if it escalates and threatens to impose itself in their delicate little lives. Twats.

Germany as always is your biggest impediment and China happy to turn a blind eye if it creates a sh*tstorm in the west. Half their energy is from Russian gas, keeping the Mercs and VWs rolling is their primary goal and they have never been overly sympathetic about neighbouring countries being invaded. Even worse its Russian gas from a pipeline that comes through Ukraine. The dark glasses went on the moment the invasion started.  Germany controls the EU now and the war will escalate because they wont want to rock the boat. If they wont act now when its possible to contain then its just going to expand and expand. Vlad wants the Soviet Union back and when he tries it on with one of the former that is now a NATO country all hell will break loose.
