Nige65 Posted September 26, 2022 Report Posted September 26, 2022 I have a roller style garage door that I would like to add a security device to, I have seen a few designed for up and over doors but nothing to suit the roller type. I don't have a separate access door so can't lock from the inside. Thanks in advance, Nige.
Rallye Posted September 26, 2022 Report Posted September 26, 2022 Isolate the power to start, and secure (if main content) car with a suitable lock
BaileyMex Posted September 26, 2022 Report Posted September 26, 2022 As above, additional isolation to the main roller motor power via a secure wifi power plug Or if a mechanical solution, if you have 'wide slats' on the roller, you can fit a full width lender of angle iron on the lower slat and bolt these through, they then would need an anchor on the inside https://www.amazon.co.uk/Schlosser-Technik-Enfield-Garage-Bolts/dp/B075QHDK29
katana Posted September 26, 2022 Report Posted September 26, 2022 Something like this may work for you? . . . . . https://www.screwfix.com/p/master-lock-garage-protector/2459t#product_additional_details_container
Nige65 Posted September 26, 2022 Author Report Posted September 26, 2022 Sorry, forgot to mention that it was a manual and not a powered roller door! Found this on the bay and it looks suitable for the job. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233210481323?hash=item364c6d8aab:g:GMIAAOSwDLtcnOcE&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAsPdQg%2BNzOtQYyglt0tKPAnazA%2B6%2F8I%2B1S67v2uGn4XHmhOW9xC6P2lQf1bAu72jJBatVUsvLTlyOigHRx7AHD3ohXfgHf7kPXiSBNf%2FR%2FiAP2vbE03OZDfDZT26spkFS36DPoc2Mg6FJWeRSWhPAbI31H26Ipnbnc%2BInum1ScRjfFR%2Fla2UcIgMMFclsYhAiuZ31JeXeOerIWr4B1BdRLkFyWLsqb2kzX3qVXj457v7v|tkp%3ABk9SR7KP1LDvYA

Nige65 Posted September 27, 2022 Author Report Posted September 27, 2022 Sorry Gents, meant to clarify that it is a standard roller door as mentioned above, I think that I have the solution.

Interested in the solution, as I have a new roller shutter being fitted this Friday on my new garage workshop.
Nige65 Posted September 27, 2022 Author Report Posted September 27, 2022 I have ordered one and hope to have it fitted at the weekend depending on what my other half has got planned and of course the weather! I will take a photo of it when complete and post here👍 4
Nige65 Posted October 3, 2022 Author Report Posted October 3, 2022 Morning, Following on from my questions, photos of the installation are attached. I had to fabricate the angle bracket (sprayed black to look nice) and cut the base plate as there is a slight step to the garage floor. I also had to drill 2 x 16mm holes for the rawl-bolts into the concrete and was lucky enough to be able to get my hands on the equipment from work to do so. I'm happy with how it looks and it appears to be pretty secure as it would take effort and damage to the door, will probably also fit some sort of camera such as a wildlifecam for extra peace of mind. Miniliteman Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 These 3 bolts look a weak point to me. A crowbar between the door and the black thingybob and you can open the door.
Brenda1978 Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 I have something similar. Does the job as I know a few people have tried to get in ....the bastards

Whilst they look like 'woodscrews' I'm sure they aren't and are securely nut & washered on the reverse side . . . . . an additional plate across all three wouldn't be a bad upgrade - 'just in case'
Nige65 Posted October 4, 2022 Author Report Posted October 4, 2022 To be honest, a couple of heavy blows with a sledge hammer would probably destroy the whole locking arrangement if a would be thief wanted to break into the garage and steal the car inside but there will always be another car on the drive in front of the door as an additional barrier. Hopefully secure enough for what I need!

Miniliteman Posted October 4, 2022 Report Posted October 4, 2022 The thieving b*st*rds hate noise, so they won't try heavy blows with a sledge hammer. They could with a cordless drill drill a hole marked with the black circle. Then take a cordless reciprocal saw and cut parallel to the black strip to the right. If theres a metal strip behind they cut above the handle. Which leaves the bottom part of the roller door separate from the rest. I would install a motion detection alarm inside the garage. When the garage opens you have a few seconds to use a pin-code to disarm the alarm. There are relatively cheapish alarms on batteries which make a hell of a noise when they go off.
