As Title:

Mini 1275GT 1978 . Three washers under oil by-pass valve to get the oil pressure up.

Escort MK 1  1974 . Two newspares and a yard of chicken wire plus 2 tins of filler in one front wing.

Cortina Mk2 1600E 1971.  Wired-up the oil light to the Ignition warning light circuit because oil pressure was so low it wouldnt go out.

It will come as no suprise a quick google search reveales all three cars are long since scrapped.

So... come on guys. Fess-Up.!

Asbestos muffler putty to fill those C pillar rust holes, regular body filler wouldn't stick to the rust. It was so effective I had friends bring their families cars around to fill those pesky screen sill holes to pass our version of a MOT. Im not sure whether that was a compliment or an insult at the time now that I think about it? 🤔

For the record RP2000 now has rust free C pillars now from a generous forum member in the Netherlands! ( @anglia58 )

Back in the day an Engine re-build was new rings and thicker oil.

Asbestos Putty. Sounds like good stuff.

Heat proof body filler I would have called it.!

Sadly you cant buy it any more!

Bodges? way back when the cars were cheap as chips there were a few to be sure.

First car was a 1975 MK2 Escort 2 door, bought it off an old girl in Croydon for £250, reasonably solid and straight, but she'd spilt something on the carpet which had stained the black carpet white in places...... a cheap can of matt black paint from halfords sorted that! cheaper than a new carpet! haha

Had to cut off a seat belt on the way back from a show after an exhaust U bolt snapped and tie it up and hope it didn't totally melt before I got home

Lost an alternator bolt at the Cranley show back in the 2000's and used a wing nut from an old mangle that was for sale at an autojumble to get me home

Trying to fit a rear spoiler to a MK2 and cocking up the holes in the boot, and grinding them up and down to fit, couldn't tell once it was on, but it wasn't pretty by any stretch

Probably more.... 😄

I had a Capri that kept on blowing fuses for the wipers.

A cut down 6'' nail sorted that.😁

Same car had a noisey diff. My mate said  ''Put some rice in it''.

I did and it worked a treat.

Is was Basmati mind.

Back then it really was a case of 'A little knowledge is worse than none'.
