Cold War Cars - Yorkshire Air Museum York
Vista Estate replied to Vista Estate's topic in SHOWS, EVENTS & MEETS
We need to do a race Dave , or should I call you Iceman π€£ -
What a great venue for a car show today at the Yorkshire Air Museum, Elvington, York. We helped this local charity attraction hold a very special event for Father's Day. Over 1200 people came through the gate, making it the most successful event this year. Loads to see and do for all the family with many cold war era cars on show alongside planes, linked displays, restorations, amazing model plane aeronautical displays, motorbikes, music and much more. Not forgetting the ice-cream π Vista Estate had her moment doing the top gun race against a fighter jet. The Ford 1.6 Crossflow can really push the speed limit. Sound barrier broken (well the Ashley Exhaust did sound good and the second choke gave you a kick in the pants) π€£. Look put for this event next year and get booked in. Exhibiting is free π

Hi Chris @cr1, you've come to the right place, we all are a bit rough around the edges π€£. Welcome on board.

Hi all, Once again OSF has been asked to have a show stand at the NEC this November. This will be our 16th time. I, along with @Ray and @stephens_xpack will be doing all the organisation this year as per last years successful anniversary show. (Take a look at the NEC2024 posts). This post is a call out to members who would like to show there car. We are looking for a good spread of cars and newbies too. To be eligible you will need to be a paid member of OSF for insurance purposes. Basic details first, the show runs from the 7th to the 9th of November, the set up day is Thursday 6th November. I will be up there on the 6th, as usual, but we can drop stuff and cars off on the afternoon of the 5th as well. Once your car is in the hall on either the 5th or the 6th, then you won't be allowed to take it out until the evening of the 9th when the NEC have let all the public traffic clear the roads, access for trailers is then via a north car park that you have to queue at, I recommend going up on Wednesday the 5th of you are planning to trailer your car as the outside traffic trying to get in can be a nightmare, but that's just my preference, and I don't have working commitments, but from where you are that may also mean extra hotel accommodation. There is provision for you to park a trailer in a north car park for the show duration, but if you do, make sure you have good security measures, on the wednesday afternoon, trailering the car into the hall shouldnt be an issue, but it will be on the thursday, and I'll give better instructions for what to do rather than take the trailer into the hall. Unfortunately all costs involved with you doing the show are your responsibility, as we are a non funded club, depending on how you go about that is up to you and will be reflected in your costs, Hotels, especially close ones are very expensive and fill quick, some people use Air BNB and get some good deals, train station is on site as well. I along with @Ray usually set up a WhatsApp group to fill all exhibitors in with the information required as we go, so that'll need a WhatsApp no if you use it. Your car does not have to be concourse to exhibit. We look to reflect the spirit of OSF. In the last few years, people seem to have dumped and run, which has left just a few to set up and run the stands, so this year we are insisting on set up help, and a system where there's fair share of the time on the stand allowing the others a break during the show - please. On set up day, you're required to wear steel toe caps and hi vis vest, this is the same on Sunday breakdown as well, however I've never seen the shoes enforced, you will be given entry instructions closer the time, No children or young adults under 16 are allowed on the premises during set up or breakdown. We have some spare hi vis if you need one. On the 3 show days, you will have free entry to the show via a wrist band, one colour for each day, these will be issued on the Thursday set up day, where I have to go and collect them from the office. The std allocation is 2 bands per show car, ie a max of 2 people free per car per day, however I do pool the bands as some only need the one, others may want an additional, and if we can be fair its better, but extra free tickets are limited, and the NEC want full entry fee for more, however we can earn more if we sell enough tickets via our special purchase code (so tell your friends!π). Ray and I will run a spread keeping an eye on what everyone wants, and hopefully no one gets disappointed, there are also a small limited amount of free parking tickets for the clubs on the show days, I will explain that one later. Your car is secure in the NEc with overnight security too. We have a barrier system to prevent people going round cars uninvited. Any questions please ask. I do need to know fairly soon, and if you say yes, I do need you to keep that commitment, because it can be very hard to replace someone near the time of the show, and also I have to declare how many cars within the next month or so, thats one of the ways they sort part of the ticket allocation. If you've not exhibited at the show before, its a fantastic experience, and once again Retro Ford magazine will follow our journey. We had anazing coverage in 2024. Thank you RetroFord Magazine π We have space for up to 5 cars in Hall 8 next to the 1300E Owners Club along one wall. A great spot. π I will be taking Vista Estate and we have provisional mk1 fiesta supersport. So that means 3 spots are free for now. So please get in touch with me ASAP by private message. There is no guarantee we will have an opportunity next year so don't put it off. Yes it's quite a commitment but life is too π€£. I look forward to hearing from you. YKTπ€

Not had that issue recently, as my car went through its Mot only a month ago. It was a good job as one of the rear cylinders was on its way out and let go on the test. Best place rather than on the road. I'm running a 32/36 dgv and don't get anywhere near a fail. If your car had failed before and you had resolved it and it then passed how can the MOT station not then do a new test 1 year later? As @Vistasaid, I think it's time to find a new testing station. π

Hi Mike, It's a long story and one featured in both Classic Ford and RetroFord Magazine. In a nutshell yes Ford did indeed create a 1600GT estate (or Mexico). They were based on heavy duty export shells that are not unlike type 49 shells according to AVO. Two mexicos in primrose yellow and one RS 2000 in white estates are in the UK. My own car has a very interesting history and one that I have done a lot of research on. It is an heavy duty export shell and has all the same elements as the other three cars. Sadly my car is missing tge second identifier plate and was the subject of export in RHD and then finished in Portugal as LHD. It was reinported in 2016 and converted back. Its original paint code on the ID tag is primer, interestingly. It had been sat on a 'shelf' for sometime. At the end of the day it is what it is as I have done some of my own period mods. If you want to know more then please feel free to message me.

Looks like a normal type 2. Any thoughts @colr6?

I saw loads at shows last year that boasted not doing an MOT and frankly they knew nothing about cars and there were a few shady aspects on their motor, not to mention tyres that had extra treadlines between the tread if you get my drift. It's their choice but I would not want to be in the car with them. On the other hand I saw others that were well maintained. Responsibility comes in all shapes and sizes π
-
@BaileyMexI'm not sure why doing an MOT is such a chore. I have mine done every year and I'm pretty good as a mechanic but brakes are hard to test yourself. Failing cylinders and weeping joints are not uncommon in cars that are not used every day. It's true insurers or brokers are not asking the question when the policy is taken out but I have yet to see a test case of an accident involving a self certified car. Personally, whilst I know the MOT is only good at the time done, I see it as part of my annual maintenance bill and just do it. I have piece of mind for me and my wife when using the car and can sleep knowing I do the best I can. Given what we spend on our cars Β£40 is nothing. On another note I read that the rules are set to change and the manufacturer standard is even more blurred. Does fitting a K&N filter or a custom exhaust give insurers a get out clause? I know there is talk of pattern parts disqualification. If I were you I would speak to someone like Stuart at Abbeyfields before deciding not to MOT or just carry on. I will just carry on. Now if you have a trailer queen or stock car that does 100miles per year that could be a different matter
