  1. Hi, Sorry, should have read your post deeper, I use the one in the picture, so yes with octane booster, I tend to stay away from super unleaded fuels due to the amount of Ethanol some makers use, it plays havoc with aluminium bodies of the carbs. So I use standard Shell unleaded with the Castrol plus, and the cars run quite well, but nothing is as good as the 1970,s 4 Star blends of fuel, and modern fuels go stale in less than 12 months and produce some horrible resins and gums/varnish, bloody crap fuel to be honest to what we had.
  2. I always use the same Castrol stuff as you, but I don't do any miles at all, so have never had any issues. I believe valve seat recession is more of a problem if you sustain high rev's/engine under heavy loads, so our lightly loaded plodders should not have an issue, but measure your valve clearances on a regular basis and you can monitor if the valve head is starting to "Pocket" into the valve seats, but it would only affect exhaust valves. Al.
  3. English axles have always been prone to noise, I have had Fords back in the 70,s that had a whine in once passed 40/45mph, and they still made the same whine 100K after that, it just needs to be located more and find out if its half shaft or diff noise. As long as it is not rumbling and groaning, I tend to leave alone, it can open a tin of worms, unless your going to pull the half shafts and fit original "Timken" bearings with a new collar, some of these cheap half shaft bearing leak diff oil past the inferior bearing seal and ruin your brake shoes, one of my MK2 Escorts with 32k on has a very slight whine over 55mph but it has done no mileage in the last 10 years so I will leave it alone, is it making a noise under load, or just on the over run !!??, eliminate the prop for noise, check oil level in the rear diff, even change it for some nice new fresh EP90, that sometimes can make a good difference, but is a pain to change properly, as you really need to pull the half shafts and release the diff from the case, I like to remove it so I can mop out all the old oil and fit a fresh gasket and put it all back together with good quality mineral EP90. If it does need diff bearings (and a full set up), Andy from this web site is a master on English & Atlas, done 2 for me, as good as new and very reasonable prices. A really bad bearing in the diff or a failed bearing on a halfshaft would be noisy all the time, check all mountings as well, 60mph is what RPM in what gear in your car, can you get the same noise in a lower gear at different revs etc-etc. Al.
  4. Hi, You did not waste my time, just glad between us all we might have got it sorted, I have been throwing out my old alternators as well, better check what I have left !!?? Good luck getting it sorted.
  5. Hi Rich, I have checked them, and all 5 are the same size/shape, 3 of my cars run crossflows, and all 3 have the same bracket, and the belts are not out of align in any way, so not sure what is going on with yours, it could be the pully on the water pump if that has been changed at some time. Regards.

  13. Hi Eddie, have sent you a message (well I hope I have !!!??). My Escort MK2 Ghia has the console with the radio in as well as the clock Colr6 !!??, but I also have a 1600L with an under dash mount radio but no centre console and no clock, !! so I am a bit confused, did not know they did an Escort MK2 console that did NOT include the radio as well, I have seen the type that Eddie is selling in some Capri MK2's as they have a slot in the dash for a radio. Any way, will be as chuffed as punch to have a clock in my GL, real posh.
  14. Hi, Would be interested in the console & clock if available. Wonder if it uses the same Escort MK2 Ghia console brackets to secure it onto the tunnel. Cheers. Al.
