  1. low fluid level, possibly, it might be worth a fluid and filter change before removing the box from the car, also check or have checked the vacuum modulator. cheers, ian
  2. what a great day, my first classic ford show, and first time at the pod for something like 20 years, so many changes ! I didn't take the Anglia because of the weather, but had a great day and my son ( 10 ) loved every minute too. I saw the aftermath of the mk3 crash, such a shame as it was running really strong. looking forward to next year already, but note to self - get to the pod more often! cheers, ian
  3. wheel spacers are perfectly safe as long as they are fitted properly and the stud length isn't compromised. as stated by katana, the hubcentric spacers only locate the wheel before the nuts provide the friction fitting to the hub. the tiny lip on most hubcentric spacers has no structural strength. cheers, ian
  4. I had a 1200 mk1 back in the day, I eventually put a 1700 pre x flow with a 2000e box in but in the meantime I put a 1500gt carb and manifolds on, it really livened the old 1200 up, and a pair of 1500 disc brake struts helped it stop, it was also radically lowered on 7 x 13 revolutions, but in those days every breakers was full of old fords, and there were no speed humps ! happy days.
  5. nice one! very respectable..
  6. good luck with that sale, i think he'll need it!
  7. hi I am thinking brake drum here, remove the wheel and run the car in gear and watch the drum I am guessing you will see the wobble here and it's that that's stopping the wheel seating. you could also swap the drums and see if the problem moves with the drum. cheers, ian
  8. hi, yes I just carefully prised the can open then crimped it back to the base when re assembling. I used a 10 volt one for the Anglia, but my vw one has vdo 5 volt gauges so that one was obviously 5 volt. I have a lot on at the mo with a family bereavement, but I will look into doing a how to if I can find time. cheers ian
  9. I have recently repaired both my Anglia one, and the one in my vw camper, I simply opened the case if the regulator, removed the innards and installed a solid state regulator in the case. these are available from virtually any electronics store or ebay they come in various output voltages and the input voltage is typically anything up to about 40v. one leg is battery voltage, one leg is earth and the 3rd leg is the output. dead simple if you are able to solder small components, and you are left with a modern electronic regulator that looks the same as the original. I did my vw one just last week, it took about 30 mins and cost about a pound. regards ian.
  10. clearly not a mexico! either someone who already owned a mexico v5 bought it, or the seller bought a mexico v5 and re listed it at twice the price. either way i would give it a wide berth and find a genuine car. the value of these cars nowadays is encouraging all sorts of unethical activity, and in my opinion the real enthusiast should stay away. cheers, ian.
  11. I would imagine it's an easy enough swap, it's also a good way to ruin a mk1 Cortina in my opinion, and it is just that, nothing personal meant ! cheers, ian.
  12. don't pass it up because of the tax exempt date, the worst you will need to buy is six months, then after april 2015 it will be exempt anyway, cheers, ian.
  13. 105speed all the way, I bought a manifold and system for my Anglia, it fits like a factory system, looks and sounds great, it was delivered personally by neil McCarty as well ! I can't recommend them highly enough, it was about 700 but well worth it in my opinion, cheers, ian.
  14. I sent them an enquiry regarding retro steels, they eventually got back to me stating what I had already seen on the website, useless in my opinion, and if they are still in business, they shouldn't be. cheers, ian
  15. how about a period 'st christopher' type badge or plaque? cheers, ian
  16. that was very lucky, but to be fair you can't really state it was rac negligence, when it is clearly a contractors rig that has failed for whatever reason. not having a dig, just being fair, cheers, ian
  17. i'll second that I had one go last week, a piece of it put a nice tear in my finger, they do cut nice but be very carefull not to side load them !
  18. hi accel is quite an old established brand of us ignition components, I would think it would be fine, years ago now I ran a weber ( not the same maker as the carbs ) dual point distributor on my 351w mk 1 Granada, it was about 30 quid new ( mind you it was the early 90's! ) and it was a nicely made and finished bit of kit. cheers, ian
  19. I was there for an hour or so, not many in attendance, but then it wasn't osf organised, it was organised on Retards Club. it was nice to get the Anglia out but it wasn't busy..
  20. you need dave colledge at retro ford, he does some nice kit for zetec conversions, cheers, ian.
  21. no, that's why it's a koln axle, I believe the internals are English components. cheers, ian.
  22. i would be more in favour of a simpler, cheaper test for old vehicles that covered things like rust, brakes, lighting, tyres and suspension. it could be offered cheaper as there is lees to check than on a modern car. i think a blanket exemption would lead to people cutting corners with maintenance and modifications, and to be honest i would rather be sharing the roads with cars that have to pass scrutiny every year. cheers, ian.
  23. standard all the way, i tried world cup style mounts in my anglia, it was awful! i got another crossmember and fabricated the pads to accept aftermarket cast rs2000 mounts with the cotton reel style rubbers, lovely now, and much more durable that stock anglia mountings that tear apart on the first booting! cheers, ian.
  24. rare opportunities like this are impossible to value, and i think proper auctions are the way to go, items like this are worth what someone will pay, the guy that paid the 29k obviously wanted it bad, but had he not been there that day it may have only made 20K, so you never realy know exact values. the flipside of course is now everyone will think that their rs 2000 is worth 30K ! cheers, ian.
