i can see this being a topic that i have to take to some chavy ICE forum as u guys wont aprove

 

 

Where could you put a sub in a old ford... with it not been a hatch back and the body of the car having a steel wall between it and the boot could you still put it in there

 

is it a problem the petrol tank being in there too

 

 

dont worry its not for any sh*te drum and base

 

music just sounds better with a bit of base.

I agree whole heartedly.

 

I have a small sub bolted up underneath the rear shelf where the sole mk1 Escort speaker would have been. Seems to have the desired effect.

Drum and bass is just breakbeat techno and it aint all shite and yes this a chavvy topic as the only music you need are a set of twin 40s or and essex on full chat ! :roll::wink:

I like my engine note too but I use my car a lot, often for driving a long way with my partner in the car. Sorry but music is a must.

 

As you accurately predicted, a few piss take answers but ultimately it's your car and if you want a sub in it you've every right to ask the question.

You're probably better off with a small bass tube - double ended 8" or something. Free air subs only work when you have a really good air seal between the front and rear of the speaker & a controlled volume of air behind it.

 

Mk2 Esorts can run an mdf baffle with the subs mounted through behind the rear seat, not sure how you capper guys can do it.

 

If you're a bit handy with a jigsaw you can knock up a bass box in a couple of hours, copy the dimensions from someone elses & away you go.

 

Take a pic of the boot, I might have an idea or two.

I have know idea why people automaticly think that if you have a decent sound system it make you a chav :?

 

I have a 12" infinity sub, 2 6x9 infinity's in a custom fiberglass shelf, and building some custom door pods at the minute to house my infinity components. then they are all powerd trough a 6 channel amp. Having a good system dosnt meen you have to drive around anoying every fooker :D I dindnt want to cut holes in my parcel shelf as it is a minter so I built a fiberglass one ( I was bored at work) but it turned out ok so I have kept it. There was no previsions for door speakers so instead of cutting holes I have started buillding fiberglass pods.

The buety of fiberglass is that for a few hours work you can make anything fit anywhere. Set up right you wont have to worry about the fueltank and rear bulkhead as you will still hear and feel the bass. I would reomend an amp with an adjustable bass controler up front, Because if like me yuo listen to loads of diffrent types of music, the bass levels in diffrent music varys so much and its nice to be able to turn it up and down when you want.

If you havnt got a sub already and are looking for one its a lot easyer buying one thats pre amplified. And make sure your your head unit has preouts to semd the signal to your amp/sub

i totally agree with "Slik 50" i love oldskoolfords but i also love music and i can't knock anyone for wanting to listen to wan't you want, so go on and Do it Do it, i plan to have some sounds in the van when its finished :D however don't know how your gonna fit a sub in the boot of your cappa :?

having a Mk1 Capri I can sympathise with you. I only just fitted 2 small speakers in the back parcel shelf and there is definately no room to seal them from behind. My only thought on a location is between the rear bucket seats (if you have them) where the armrest goes?

I agree that you've gotta have some music - preferably 70's rock to go with the car!

Not ideal for acoustics & getting the sound to your ears, I'd go for a decent 8" tube or a 10 or 12 inch sub in box tucked into one of the corners, both on quick release straps/connectors so you can haul it out when required.

 

It may sound chav but I'd also go for something that has a real kick, anything too weedy will be lost in there. It's always a compromise. When doing your measurements don't forget the boot hinges when the lid is down - gets so many people!

 

Are you planning on an amp?

Systems and osf's can be a pain, mounted my stereo on the switch panel which means its angled at about 60 degrees, manual states it shouldn't be more than 30! seems to work though.

 

As for speakers just got 2 6x9's on a self made parcel shelf. doesn't sound too bad. Have cut my own door cards for the front to save the originals but its pain in the ass tryna work out how to bolt them to the door!

 

Although when i'm driving on my own theres nothing like the sound of 1300 xflow on full chat :D:D:D

i had no problem with the stero and speakers.... scratch built centre console and speaker pods under the shelf and top of parcel shelf....

 

 

....only problem was i wired the switch wire to the wiper supply... who can guess what happens when i turn the wipers on :oops:

i have an Alpine mp3 head unit, a pair of 4" Kenwood speakers and a pair of Kenwood 6"x9"s in my Corty. Considering sticking a 10" bass box in the boot.

 

and i listen to goth and rock music...

 

i love the sound of my V6 but sitting in traffic on the way to work i'd much rather be listening to music as it help keeps me calm and distracts me from watching the fuel gauge going down :mrgreen:

in my orion i have 6.5" seperates up front, 6x9's under the rear shelf, a 10" sub in the boot and they're all hidden under the standard grilles, so stealthy and it keeps it all away from prying eyes.
