Morley Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 When building a car, if you were given money to spend on only ONE of the following, would you spend it on making it go fast in a straight line (tuning the engine) or making it go fast around corners (up rating the suspension)
Mr Sam Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 dont need much cornering for 1/4 miles saying that i might be starting a bit of auto testing and grass tracking so im desperatly trying to sort out some suspension
Gareth Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 Power's fook all without grip.. So suspension gets my vote
4parajon Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 Well rightly or wrongly Ive gone down the power route first, now I'm starting on the handling. Each to there own
Morley Posted June 14, 2007 Author Report Posted June 14, 2007 Well rightly or wrongly Ive gone down the power route first, now I'm starting on the handling. Each to there own Thats cool bud, not really asking if there is a cut and dry right or wrong, just wondered what people would do. I've always fought the corner of handling, but just had an argument with someone who sides with power (he does have a 350bhp FWD car, he can't help being a wally)
Admin Vista Posted June 14, 2007 Admin Report Posted June 14, 2007 Definitely handling, for one fairly simple reason Huge power without handling is actually pretty dangerous but Handling without power will hurt no - one If you sort the handling first you can uprate the power later, but if you drop in enormous power and aren't responsible with it, there's just no way of sorting the handling once you're brown bread!
antz Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 i did the handling on my car first! no point having power if you cant handle it!
CéDriC Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 i did the handling on my car first! no point having power if you cant handle it! one more, have a look "at full throttle" jereny clarckson.
xpackken Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 swings and roundabouts this one im afraid guys . whats the point having good handling if you cant get the car to go as quick as it could around the corners . i agree to with, what good is power with a car that doesnt handle . the is no wrong or rite to it . _________________ Stock paintball
V8ian Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 Gonna buck the trend here, Brakes,, your car is no good if you cant stop it crashing into somthing if the brakes are not up to it. but saying that, if the suspension is rubbish, it will compromise the breaking effect of the car anyway
RETRO_AL Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 handling and brakes before power then you can gradualy up the power to suit the car
James HPE Motorsport Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 Balls-out power first and then you know how much you need to upgrade the suspension by!!!
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 i also did the handling first its the safest way to go
Duke3s Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 I'll have to go with handling too. I upped the power on mine without spending too much on the suspension, kind of wished i'd spent more on it now. You live and learn! its next on the list!
bmxdave Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 For me its subject to the car. If it goes fauirly well, or is lightweight etc it all affects it. A mini for example handles fairly well as standard, so you could drop a 1380 in there and be fairly confident. Likewise you could buy a 2.8 spesh capri and its got plenty of go, so you may sort out the handleing. I chose power though. My triumph has a chassis designed for a 948cc engine with about 30 brake, now it has a 2 litre six with over a hundred. It handles dreadfully, but with the right technique its almost as quick as it would be if it handled properly, plus you have the self satisfaction of taming the beast.
Dom Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 I voted for balls out power, good for scaring the shit out of yourself
Arched Escy Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 IF you spend £500 on your engine, spend £500 on your suspension and brakes. No point having a good handling car that doesn;t need to handle well cos it's not going fast enough.
angliaalan Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 i think the car that can handle will be quicker than all the power on the back roads
