Todays Interesting Fact from 'Neils world of Knowledge' is..... the Rover V8 is LIGHTER than a Pinto.......

is that right :o????

Yep... a Rover V8 is an Ally block... a pinto on a single carb weighs 21 stone.. my mate used to race Formula 2 Super Stocks and they have to weigh everything.. his Pinto nearly broke the bathroom scales....

Ah another thread hijack  Getting back on topic, I think PPC is by far the best car mag out there and who cares if ONE person had a dig, not everyone likes old Fords and its hardly worth missing out on a great mag for. Beats reading about the same things all the time. Kind of like going to a massive mixed car show and only looking at Fords.

Posted

yeah they wern't slagging the cars they were slagging the scene and thats the second time they are either a bit dim or after a reaction and what they said :wah: hurts really hurts....

For: So fun, so tunable, so tailhappy

Against: Naff 'old skool' scene.

Ok, you lot know me and you know i tell it how i see it ..

The naff part .. ie the spelling of school, which denotes a scene.. and that scene is the associated with the south London look.. the pastals, the 175's/50/13's the snorting pinto.. and the "everything else is crap unless its old skool" atitude, as pesonified by Gazicstans Mk1 Gaz ( I can pick on him cos its like water of a ducks back :D )

And this thread leads me back to the thing about the CF show, where invited clubs had non " old Skool" cars on their club stands.. and they where slated on here.. which to be honest is a pretty naff atitude

Gaz will turn this into another Pinto is best and anything else is Naff thread .. its his way.

But behind the Pinto is best drivel, he'll also back up some V8's .. the BMW's mainly ... he'll even go all dribbly over Alpina Wheels

He just feels that in an Old Skool escort it should be a pinto or x-flow.. thats his view, but it may be the "naff " view thats been tagged onto Old Skool...

When was the last time you've seen posted on here "thats proper old skool" under a pic of a Ferrari 250, BMW 3.0CSL , Lancia 037, Fiat 131 or even a Rally/race Escort, no its always under a pic of a "south london look" escort.

Even Vista's Montreal got called "cool".. but not "old school cool" , and yet its one of the coolest Italian cars from the 70's ... with an Italian V8 ... have you ever heard a proper Italian V8 wail ???? its music, a symthony of induction and exhaust. A BDA sounds good.. now imagine 2 of them..

All the cars above are from the same period ... and yet they are not included in the " old skool" scene, and perhaps its the exclusion of others that make it Naff .

I find it strange when someone posts up a pic of DB9 Aston and asks "would you have one if you could" and the comments go..

"nope dont like em, old skool only for me"

"would rather have a escy on 175's with a screaming pinto"

to me.. those answers are just crazy .. and yes it has something to do with the Old Skool scene.. ie nothing is better than an Old Skool car.. sorry chaps , but that DB9 pisses all over an Escort on all scores 'cept the tax free one.

And i live and breathe OSF's (ok.. mainly breathing in welding fumes)

Given the choice.. I'd rather have the "naff" DB9 than an RS1600.

Guess after reading this you wont queuing up outside mine to have work done .. as it may appear i dont have an Old Skool soul.. and yet i dedicate most of my waking (and some dream) hours to building OSF's that can hold their own against the modern supercars.

i agree with retro there are more cars out there than fords, i chose the cortina as i really liked it

honestly how many people buy a car for the scene rather than the car itself?

I guess if PPC are having a little dig then it means they've noticed you...

and if you've been noticed then you are half way there....

Or are you just being a bit paranoid Mike ?

:dope: What a load of old drivel from retro  . I like all old cars and i've got lots , the oldskoolford scene aint naff it's the best , all the other meets and shows i go to aren't a patch on them . Just because most people don't like non original colours ( pearesent orange etc ) and still run on 13 inch wheels doesn't make a scene naff does it ? Sticking ugly modern 15+ inch wheels and stupid areofoils on one does though and the people with them will say " yes but i'm being different and YOU MUST like it as well " . Well people can fit what they like for all i care but when a magazine calls a scene naff then it should get it's facts straight first and attend some meets + shows instead of polishing up their NAFF motors :lol::lol:

i think ppc have always frowned upon nice looking motors and concours stuff too.

but they are a modified car magazine and if poo-pooing that stuff helps them sell mags to thier target market then thats what theyre gonna do

we are just a small group of car owners in the big wide world im afraid..

No, I just wondered if something has happened between the old skool scene (or more specifically OSF) and PPC for that little comment to appear. (like the PPC forum on here being closed)

Personally, while I don't get PPC every month I think it's a very good mag. Putting engines in cars that they don't belong in whilst keeping it looking stock is a great concept. Sleepers really do it for me. Hell, after reading this months mag I even looked on ebay for a Volvo 340

It's hardly a crime not liking pearlesant paint jobs , big wheels and aerofoils bolted to a mk1 escort etc is it ? I don't like them bolted to 1970's ferrari's + Talbot sunbeams either
